I think that TUT is very important and often overlooked, when people talk about what rep range to use is 8 better than 10 etc etc. 5 slow controled reps can have the same TUT as a set of 10 reps that are just hammered up and down. I think that people often 'cheat' and lift too heavy without good form, without full range of movement and far too fast, but hey it looks/sounds good that they can 'lift' x amount.

Thats true. Arnie was so anal about it he reckoned that just changing the arc travelled on arms just by one inch really fooked up the whole exercise and made it a shoulder exercise.

I try to keep elbows locked in and also use a preacher bench for dumbells.

I do see some people in my gym using a preacher bench but not keeping their arms dead straight (more of a diagonal across the bench) which kinds defeats the object really.

Re: time under tension

I keep the tension on for most exercises for the full number of reps- use a spotter if you try this on incline bench press! It really hammers the legs on squats!
