when it comes to the day i work my back and legs out i still have an ache in my shoulders and neck from the shoulder workout 2 days earlier, is it still ok to work on my back with this ache or will it be overtraining if my shoulders havnt fully recoverd yet?

Re: back and shoulders

Back and legs is an unusual combination. Sounds like a tough day!

I'm 2 weeks into a new routine where I do shoulders and back on the same day. It's really good because I feel I've hit all the tie-ins and they get a full 7 day rest period.

Maybe something similar would help you?

Re: back and shoulders

i originy started doing back and legs on the same day as i play sunday league football and it was easier to do them on the same day then but now iv stopped playing i might do shoulders and back together, and problem solved lol that would mean doing

tuesday - biceps / forearms
wednesday - chest / triceps
thursday - abs / legs
friday shoulders / back

would this be suitable?

No IMO bigger muscle groups should be first, I think,
Chest and tri's
Back and biceps
Legs and abs,
Shoulders.
Would be a better combo if you want to do days like that. With a rest day in ther somewhere also.

Re: back and shoulders

There is no point spending a whole day on biceps and forearms.

And if you have squats and deadlifts in your legs and back session, i dont know how you manage both.

There are loads of different types of splits you can do.

Chest, triceps, shoulders
back, biceps
legs

chest, triceps
back, biceps
legs, shoulders

arms and shoulders
chest
back
legs

Re: back and shoulders

Back and biceps is good for starting out.

Your biceps get worked in back exersises aswell.

Some people do back and triceps, chest and biceps. So really, theyre arm muscles get 2 workouts a week.

Triceps trained with back and then as an assistance muscle with chest.

Re: back and shoulders

My workout is

Mon: Chest and biceps
Tues: Legs
Wed: Rest
Thurs: Shoulders and triceps
Fri: Rest
Sat: Back and calves
Sun: Rest

This works perfectly for me. Your muscles are recoved by the time you get to your next workout. For example I do biceps on Mon and by time i use them again on Sat for back they have recovered. Same case for triceps on thurs to chest using tricpes on mon, lots of recovery. Im growing at rapid rate on this.
