5x5

Right so I started training 5x5

On chest day I do

flat DB bench 5x5
Incline bench 5x5
and 3x8 on flys

that sound too much???

What about for back, shoulders etc... can anyone point me in the right direction for excercises for these?? Is there any reason not to do 5x5 for bi's or tris??

Re: 5x5

your doing 5 x 5 but doing 3 x 8 on flys? why?
isolating on 5 reps is not ideal

why choose 5 x 5 by the way?

back work = deads, weighted chins (if 5 reps) and a row of some sort
shoulders = military press and DB press about all you would want 5 reps for

Thanks mate, TBH I wanted to change my routine up from the normal 3x8 and was told of people having great results with 5x5 but when people talk about it they only seem to do it for one or two excercises i.e flat bench, obviously I need to do more than that on chest day so thats why I addded the flys in at 3x8.

Re: 5x5

Its a poor choice then. This rep range is aimed at those looking to do compounds to have a blend of strength and some size, not a particular persuasion to either and is certainly not a bodybuilding routine

Re: 5x5

what have you done in the past?
try MAX-OT, HST, GVT if you fancy something different or design your own based on the correct reps range, tempo finding exercises that you respond to

Re: 5x5

So you haven't put 'bodybuilding training followed by GVT, Max OT or HST' into a search engine and had a look?

3X8 isnt a training plan, like 5X5 isnt...they are just rep ranges, read about training plans

Re: 5x5

My mate has just started doing 5x5. I don't know why as he wants size above strength too.

Reps for size are 8-10 as far as I'm aware. That's what I do anyway.

I do 5x5 but I am a nerdy vegan distance runner. It's a strength rep-range.

Not exclusively per se but would be a better option in the main than 5

So you do you have any recommendations about which articles re training plans are the best reads or any preferred sources of information?

Re: 5x5

i would also be interested in what people on this site recomend i have been training on and off mostly on for 20years and prefer to pyramid as my old joints feel healtheier as opposed to straight sets esp 5x5.all these different training articles are so convincing i can see how a younger trainer could find itall a bit confusing! lots of acronyms lol. also whats peoples oppinions here on stronglifts site? very interesting for sure but no getting a pump at all?
