Squats

Hi

Well basically, was hoping someone could point me into the direction of an article/video of how to squats correctly.

The reason I ask, is was at gym today when a member of staff, told me my technique wasnt correct, and was guiding me through it (This is 2nd time of doing squats). Alhtough he said the technique was much better, I was lifting **** all weight and still didnt feel comfortable

So, really want to work on technique, then add weight afterwards.

Thanks
Mark

Re: Squats

The other thing to bear in mind is height - shorter people have an advantage in squatting (well that's my belief - if you'd ever seen my 6' ex trying to squat you'd understand! ), but the technique may be slightly different than for a tall person.

I'm sure I stick my backside out far too much, but it helps me balance and I feel comfortable.

Stumptuous.com has good instruction - don't let the fact it's aimed at girls put you off - a squat is a squat

Re: Squats

Beklet, thanks for the link, appreciate it.

I have looked on youtube, but maybe its just me but people seem to do it differently... I too, was told today, make sure you stick your backside out and head up, chest out etc... maybe I am paranoid, but want to get it right.

Re: Squats

All you need to do, is have your legs at the width you feel comfortable, have your feet pointing in the direction you feel comfortable.
When you squat down, and squat back up, make sure your knees dont shake and buckle etc.

Re: Squats

The main points that I was doing wrong:

1. The Bar was too high, was resting up to the bottom of my neck
2. My actual position, i.e when squatting down, my knees were over my toes, I was told I had to sort of sit, down/back which I didnt know.
