Warming up muscles

Confused and any advice appreciated. When I get to gym I stretch for 5 mins to get muscles awake then do 15 mins cardio to get active. When start lifting seems quite lethargic and cant press big weights for first 15 mins. Then seem to wake up and have a good 20 mins before I start to fatigue.!!!
Gets me very annoyed that I ' waste' that first 15 mins before the muscles seem to get going .

Is this just me and if not can anyoen advise please how I can cut down this period to get in to serrious lifting sooner in the session .

Thanks

Paul

Re: Warming up muscles

I've always gone for 5-6 mins max warm up say on a step or bike just to get the bpm up a bit. 15 mins maybe a bit too much.

Try lowering it to 5-6 mins and see if it works for you and give you a bit more energy during your actual workout.

Re: Warming up muscles

I warm up with some self-myofascial release (foam roller) on my ITB's and adductors
Then static hip flexor stretch, then onto active calf and adductors stretch

Couple of warm up sets and im good to go

Re: Warming up muscles

stretching will temporarily weaken the muscle so stretch afterwards or another time and don't stretch a cold muscle

Re: Warming up muscles

try this routine 10 x 20% of target wieight for main sets, then

2 x 40%
2 x 60%
2 x 80%

and then start your main sets (ie) 3 x 8
