Question Training legs

Good morning everyone,

Tonight i am training my legs for the first time in about 5 years!

I have been back in the gym now for 3 months after 3 years out due to breaking my arm!

I currently train 3 times a week and its going well, so as from today i am going go 4 times a week and include a day for legs.

But my training partner wants to train every heavy, and i think we should start off light and increase the weight as the weeks go on, because we are both big guys (6ft 20+ stone mark) and are used to carrying weight around on are legs.

i think if we train hard we will not be able to walk the next day!

what do you think?

many thanks in advance

Re: Training legs

I'd do 5 sets of squats, start with 60kgs and add 20kg per set until you can't perform 5 reps ar$e to the floor squats properly. Stick at this weight and try increase next week.

The Stiff leg deadlift is the king of hamstring exercises, work these the same as the squats.

Finish with 5 sets for calves.

It will hurt the next day and even worse the day after but what the hell - you're a man, not a mouse.

Re: Training legs

You'll do well with what I have said, its only

60x5
80x5
100x5
120x5
140x5

Same on SLDL.

For a big man like you that'll be okay, even for a first workout in a long time. I'd expect you to feel sore for a while but ignore the pain, its temporary.

Within a month you want to be taking the same reps with 40kgs jumps, hence:

60x5
100x5
140x5
180x5
220x5

This is your short term target at 20 stones. Get yourself a good powerlifting belt at some point too.

The avatar image is from Dead Mans Shoes, a great film.
