Can some one pleases offer some advice on training these Stubborn muscles. For me my calves are lacking and i need some help in getting them up to speed. At present i train them twice a week same each time, 1 session heavy and another session light. Standing calve raises 4x15 Seated calve press 4x15 Cheers Chris

Re: Calves calves calves

Calves are stubborn! :(

All I can say is make sure you use full range of movement, all the way up and all the way down. Train them hard go as heavy as you can, try a few negatives with calve raises. Nothing but hard work, if I remember right Arnies early pictures were taken with him standing in water to hide his calves. He then went off to South Africa to stay with Reg Parkes to sort out his claves and he said 500 hours of work are needed.

Good Luck

One straight set of 12 with 20s negs will make em grow.

I don't train them and they're around the 17½ inch mark. No idea how they got so big.

Ive put five inches on mine over the years but it's been extremely - and i mean extremely - hard feckin work!

I have a mate who has never trained his either and his calves are like a smaller version of Dorian Yates'.

They have grown over an inch in the last 20 months too, just from squats i guess.

Funny i used to do this quite regularly as part of my calf blitz.

Anytime i was standing still i would do small calf raises on the spot or if i was sitting down i'd pretend i was doing seated raises.
Make no mistake - i looked like an oddball - but i really, really wanted bigger calves, and i figured looking like a simpleton was worth it.

I'd experimented with all sorts of routines and nothing much made much difference - i almost gave up on them altogether, until one day i made the decision to train them every day at the start of whatever else i was training - everything i ever read told me that this would be over training but it actually worked!
Add this to the fact that every few months i would go to the gym and spend a half a day training nothing but calves just to shock them further and eventually i started getting some results - see pic below.

Certainly nothing special - but when you consider that i have very high insertions (and therefore poor propensity for calf mass) and that i managed to take the feckers from 14" to 19" then it becomes a more significant achievement.
Still to this day if there was one thing i could change about my physique it would be calves - and ive yet to see a pair on anyone that are "too big"
