Deadlift Question

Quick question on Deadlifts:

When i got to my 4th and fifth set today, my grip was giving way, i had to take tiny amounts of time to reset my grip between sorta the 3rd and 4th rep to make sure I could lift the last few reps.

Is this bad, should i just work until i can't grip it or does shifting your grip really have no effect? Is pausing detrimental/beneficial or of no affect?

Also you are meant to put the bar back to the ground befor each lift aren't you, to change muscle action types, that right?

Re: Deadlift Question

It is fine try chalking your hands and rememeber grip the bar where your arms are directly pointing down not wider than that.
Blast the weight up hold for a second lower slowly place on the ground and repeat.

Re: Deadlift Question

If I were you I'd lower the weight & concentrate on your form/grip.

Yes, lower the weight & pause for a second at the bottom then lift again.

Re: Deadlift Question

chrisj22 is right. Its all about form, not how much you lift. You will benefit more this way.

Re: Deadlift Question

My form feels pretty good, judging by the video's i've seen posted and by the explanations given, the only point of concern was just shifting my grip a little. I figure it jsut means i'm not ready to put the weight up agian as my grip wont handle anything higher.

Thanks for the advice guys

Re: Deadlift Question

Frog - are you using a double overhand grip? Or a mixed/alternative grip?

Mixed Grip. With my left hand facing away from my body, and my Right facing towards.

Re: Deadlift Question

use chalk.

If grips still an issue then train holding grip. ( forget crushers, these are for training crushing grip, wont carry over well to holding grip)

Static BB hold for time or farmers walks are both good options.

oh also forgot to add, if your going for hypertrophy and have no need to have an iron grip straps are an option.

Too many people get an@l over not using straps/gloves/etc IMHO - I don't really want the small muscles in my broken hands to stop my back development...

Re: Deadlift Question

exactly. Also helps you to concentrate on lifting with your back and not just focusing on holding on for dear life. Mind muscle connection etc.

Nah i have to disagree i think on deadlifts no straps should be used at least for part of the work out, why miss out on all that good forearm building ext, straps change the movement and it becomes much more of a leg movement for most people.
Personally i like to be able to actually use some of my gym power in real life and it just so happens grip power is one of the most commonly used powers.

Along with xray vision and web slinging?

Gotta admit - I've never used straps, but I do use gloves sometimes.

But I got broken trashed hands so I gotta work with what I got.

Good point on the forearm strength though.
