I agree the only reason not to use straps on DL is if you are looking to compete.

I always used them, double over hand grip, then when I wanted to lift I just weaned myself off them over a few months, it was not a problem.

Re: Deadlift Question

Should the weights be placed back onto the floor > then lifted from a static position, or should the weights be lifted just before they touch the floor?

I see some people arching there back when they have lifted.(arching behind) I see some people not arching there back - Is there a reason for this?

Thanks.

Re: Deadlift Question

I honestly dont see a problem using straps etc...If it helps you get more out of your workout with good form then it will benefit you..I dont buy the dont use straps thing as it will help develop my forearm strength..It makes sense(in my eyes)to use them...

I let it *gently* touch the floor each time. Arching the back is bad form /and very risky/ the spine should be as straight as possible.

Really? I have been advised multiple times that when you are standing upright there should be a small stretch back from the shoulders, lifting the chest up.

Re: Deadlift Question

There should be a slight arch to your deadlift, & your bum needs to be tucked in.

You should also stop dead on each rep at the bottom for a second - that's why it's called a 'dead' lift.

Re: Deadlift Question

straps are good if you want to isolate back development soley. if you naturally have the genes for popeye forearms and can crush golf balls like oddjob then chances are you wont need ergo dont see the need for straps.

us mortals with p1ss poor grip to back strength ratio however need to train back to the max with these 'aids' then use the day that you set aside for random whore pulling to train forearms in isolation.

having crappy genes sure eats into the cheat and easy biatch time!!

i would say mix it up a little train with straps for 4 weeks without for 4 weeks. also reduce to 3 sets. 5 it sh1tloads if your training to failure.

I find straps extremely helpful for the training of the back.

Honestly, I think most people has a poor grip to back strength ratio, considering the forearm muscles are tiny while the back muscles are large.

During back training the arms serve merely as `hooks` so personally I think it`s more important to train the back properly (even with straps) than to worry about the forearm strength.

You can strengthen your forearm separatly.

(IMHO ofcourse...)
