![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Possible new training routine against the grain Hi guys i've been doing alot of reading and thinking and i want to try a different routine rather then the nomal 4 day split i was thinking about training 3days a week but using the same compond exersise's 3 times a weeks so it would be like this deadlift, squats, bench, shoulder press, dips and doing a warm up with just the bar then 4 sets of 5 reps using my 5rep max weight and then repeating this 3 times a week now i know this will be very intense but if my diet was to be enough to allow for this and i was on a cycle to allow for quicker recovery times would this possible work.I might be well of the mark on this guys just trying to find a differnt way a) to shock my muscles into even more growth and also to motivate me a bit more as since i've had a bit of time of i seem to need that extra kick up the ass,so what do we reckon chap's good/bad idea |

Bully and Cookie do similar things from memory. You've limited the lifts to just the 'core' compounds which I like. 5x5 would be good - if you are going to do 3x Full Body Workouts then an idea might be to do as follows: Day 1: Deadlifts 5x5 Squats 5x5 Bench 5x5 Military Press 5x5 Dips 5x5 Day 2: Sumo Deads 5x5 Front Squats 5x5 Incline DB Bench 5x5 Standing DB Press 5x5 Chest Dips 5x5 Day 3: Explosive Deads (Lighter weight) 5x5 Zurcher Squats 5x5 Explosive Flat Bench 5x5 Behind the Neck Press 5x5 Gironda Dips 5x5 Just an idea.... ![]()

What your suggesting can and does work. (as long as you can handle the volume and recover well) You need to be smart and not train flat out at every session. Read this. http://www.geocities.com/elitemadcow...Linear_5x5.htm

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Possible new training routine against the grain Cheers guys th&s i will change my routine to the 1 you advise i'm quite up for this i know how i grew before and at what rate so this will be good to compare i guess my phisque will grow to a different shape to before i'm hoping that as they are all compound exersise's i will get a thicker build where as before i was more cut and detailed as i was mainly using isolating moves many thanks again chaps will put this to use and let everyone know in a few mths time the outcome i'm feeling possitive and well up for this. also i guess i will need to take in a bigger amont of carbs before training so i dont get tired to early and a massive protien and carbs in take straight after |

Bill starr / glen pendlay / mark rippetoe really do know there stuff when it comes to classic 5x5 full body routines. I suggest you read up on there methods. They are tried and tested by thousands of strength athletes and bill starr's original 5x5 (which hasnt changed much) came out in 1976 and is still being used to this day. Any routine that has stood the test of time for over 30 years deserves a look . But good luck with whatever you decide ;)
