confusion

I'd appreciate some guidance here.

OK I am old at 47 but loving the gym.

If Igo with a partner I seem motivated to get the extra rep out in a set -how can I motivate myself to do that when on own.?.

In terms of training see conflicting advice as to how to mix different body parts . Can I do biceps and triceps in same work out ?. If not how shoudl I mix around all body parts.

I train 4 times a week and swim one other day.

Is it Ok to say do biceps just once a week or do some body parts need more than once a week.

Last question I am getting good abs except what I presume are bottom set by groin just above crease for top of leg. What exercises can I do to bring these on . Just that little bit flabby when rest are good - well damn good compared to 6 months ago !!!

Thanks for any advice

Re: confusion

i would say its ok to work biceps once a weel as they get hit in other lifts, for lower abbs you can do leg raises or reverse crunches, you could do a two day spilt maybe pulling/pushing e.g do all movements that pull one day like lat pull down then the next day do all pushing muscles like bench press etc

motivation is personal maybe listern to some music but if your lifting heavy make sure you ask some 1 to spot ya don`t really matter who. hope this helps a little

If Igo with a partner I seem motivated to get the extra rep out in a set -how can I motivate myself to do that when on own.?. As Stocky says, music. Get an iPod or similar & put some music on ther that fires you up. It's cheesy as hell I know but the Rocky music is tough to beat for that! Anything that helps you to focus & visualise will make you push harder.

In terms of training see conflicting advice as to how to mix different body parts . Can I do biceps and triceps in same work out ?. If not how shoudl I mix around all body parts.

Here's what I'd suggest (assuming you've been training for a good while already):
  1. Shoulders & Triceps
  2. Back & Hamstrings
  3. Rest from weights (swim or other cardio is fine)
  4. Legs (just quads & calves)
  5. Chest & Biceps
Is it Ok to say do biceps just once a week or do some body parts need more than once a week. Smaller muscle groups are very easily overtrained so never more than once a week, but the same applies IMO for the whole body.

Last question I am getting good abs except what I presume are bottom set by groin just above crease for top of leg. What exercises can I do to bring these on . Just that little bit flabby when rest are good - well damn good compared to 6 months ago !!! You can do leg raises, but if you have bodyfat covering the abs, it's down to diet & cardio I'm afraid.

Thanks for any advice
