Correct form for Side laterals??

I found that some guys in the gym are doing side laterals with a bent arm. I was always told to keep them as straight as possible and turning the wrist down like pouring a jug of water.

Even Jay cutler does the bent arm thing - check it out:

I have found it hard to target the side delt with laterals and had more luck with behind the back cable laterals. But would like to know the correct way of doing this with a free weight rather than a machine.

Re: Correct form for Side laterals??

Slight bend in the elbow. Same as chest flyes - puts too much stress on the elbow joint otherwise.
