![]() | Overtraining - how do you know?? How do you know if you are overtraining?? Week after week I always push myself (80-90% intensity). Is there any way of telling if the body needs more or less sets/reps/weight etc? A trainer once told me that 'you either go heavy or you don't - that simple'. Is DOMS an indication whether that bodypart can be trained again? I am using raw compound exercises at the moment to build as much core strength. I have put isolation exercises on hold until I get where I want to be and aid recovery. Very confused over this one?? |

![]() | Re: Overtraining - how do you know?? I guess it's a hard one to answer with everyone being different eh. I remember a weightlifter saying that it would be impossible for him to train 80% intensity all the time. Just wondering whether once a month bringing the intensity down for a week and doing high rep stuff or isolation work again. |

When you stop progressing in strength, if you are not getting stronger, then you are over training, or training wrong, this is why a training diary is so important so you can track your progress, and make adjustments.

![]() | Re: Overtraining - how do you know?? Excellent cheers guys. Still making really good gains with my 3 day compound training. Plus the best part is I am enjoying the challenge of lifting heavier weights the following week. |

This doesn't mean to say you aren't on your way to overtraining however. Generally, you'll "just know". You'll struggle to get out of bed, have a short fuse, sometimes dred the gym etc...It takes a while to realise sometimes, you think you're getting a cold or something like that.
