Breaks from training

Due to circumstances I have not trained my back for a couple of weeks. However when I restarted yesterday I found that it was alot easier than it had been. I was lifting the same weight but with less effort.

So my question is, is it good to have a complete break from training every now and then? And if so how often and for how long?

Up until now I have been following a routine where I train Sunday Wednesday and Friday, different body parts on each day, gradually increasing the weight. Pretty much followed this religiously since Jan this year and feel that I have made some gains, but have I possibly overtrained?

Or was the feeling yesterday all imagined????

I'm very much new to this so your advice and tips please guys!

Re: Breaks from training

Yeah its good to have breaks (or de-loading periods) from training every so often. Not only gives your muscles a rest, but more importantly your CNS (Central Nervous System)

Current program is about 5/6 weeks on, 1 week off or very light.

Change program and start again.

Gotta live a little as well mate. If you get tied up partying, catching up with friends family, or whatever. Don't punish yourself.

I've had breaks of up to 2 weeks and came back just as strong, if not stronger!

Is deloading a term for training with lower weights or no weights at all?

Lux... you got it spot on. Feel guilty if I go several days without sticking to the regime!

Tonight is the first night training after having a week off, so will see if chest and arms are easier at the same weights!

Will post how I found it!!

Re: Breaks from training

Doing the same Redgav. I've just taken a week off and feel podgy, but raring to go.

Back with a plan to get my squats and deads in line with my other lifts. I'm squatting the same as I bench atm so really need to kick on.

Re: Breaks from training

I'm impressed with that Invisiblekid, I can't bench anywhere close to what I squat. My benching is very weak I think!

Re: Breaks from training

As long as you havn't just trained your chest all the time, you will probably find that Deadlifts are your strongest, squats come 2nd and bench 3rd

Taking a break can be very beneficial as many have said here... although too long a break will not be...

Don't be impressed mate - all three are hovering around 110kg. Deads and squats have been a weak point since a lower back injury.

Did back last night. Deads, Bent Over Rows, Chins then went home. Got DOMS like a motherfooker this morning.
