Resting between sets

I'm trying to increase muscle size and strength and wondered if there is an optimum time to rest between sets to help achieve this?

Any thoughts?

Re: Resting between sets

as minimal rerst as possible mate, around 30secs, you have to put your muscles under stress/ shock them and you'll grow

Re: Resting between sets

I'd say 3 min between heavy sets, if you want max strength then you need to recover, no need to rush IMO.

Agreed. If your training heavy enough you need rest in between sets.

If you can race through it you aint training hard enough, period.

Re: Resting between sets

I am training heavey so will go with 3 mins. I don't think I'd be able to do any with only 30 seconds. Thanks.

Re: Resting between sets

Some would say rest 90 secs for larger muscle groups and 45-60 secs for smaller.

For strength i rest between 2-3 mins. Or after a set of 20 rest pause squats or deadlifts, i'm not ready to even warm up for the next exersise for 10-15 mins.

I have trained using 60 secs rest then reduced down to 30, then 20 then roughly 10-15 secs. Training like this means you have to reduce the weight as the sets go on, just make sure you try and increase the 1st work set after proper warm up. I was in amazing shape after training like this for around a year. This is more of a way to get ripped and stay lean, and make slower progress but stay looking lean and mean all the time.

Re: Resting between sets

I don't time it, but I think I rest about 90 seconds between sets, unless it's a big lift, i.e. deads, squats etc & it's nearer 3 mins.
