How Much Difference!

How much difference does it make when squeezing the muscles at the end of a rep???

Can't find any personally!
How about you guys?

Re: How Much Difference!

I do. I find that I have to use a bit less weight if I really squeeze at the end of each rep, however I get a far better work out.

Re: How Much Difference!

I never fully lock out at the end. It hurts my joints too much. Also I like to keep constant tension on the muscle through the set.

Re: How Much Difference!

I agree with the constant tension thing there mate. I am no expert but I think exercises such as leg extensions, barbell rows and sepecially abs really benefit from squeezing at the end of each rep.

Re: How Much Difference!

I think your talking about a peak contraction.

Its not possible on all exercises, just those for which you have the full load of the weight on the target muscle on completion of the rep, these tend to be isolation exercises. Concentration curls or leg extensions for example.

It is very worthwhile and satisfying but it doesn't mean that exercises that don't have a peak contraction are not effective. Just think of the big 3.
