It's been modified over the years & I have used it with great effect on beginners & experienced althetes alike. The point at which true failure is reached is different depending on the individual, but the basic principles are the same. we are all human (some of us more so than others:p ) and the human body has adaptive mechanisms regardless of how long you've been going to the gym. The body doesn't reach the six month point & say to itself, ''right, I'll start reacting differently to this as he's been training for X number of months now, honeymoon period is over''. It just reacts to a new stimulus & adapts to be able to cope, that's all. All we need to do is keep manipulating the variables, & we will see a steady progression. I also truly believe that the 'isolation' & 'compound' theory is flawed. The human body is a kinetic chain & all muscles are designed to work as such. We can slightly shift the emphasis to one area, but we cannot totally disengage the fixators & synergists. I would have a beginner do squats, deadlifts & other basic stuff, but this is to build a sound exercise technique foundation & improve neuromuscular pathways before moving on to so called 'isolation' exercises. Magic, I have posted several workouts on the board over the last few months & there really is no mystique to the method. I just try not to over think everything. I don't mind giving advice on here for free as I believe in sharing good practice. The real benefit of having a PT like me is actually having me there to check technique & push you that bit harder, and also to tell you when to stop!

![]() | Re: Am I doing enough?? Cheers for that Nine Pack. very intersting reading and sounds like very good advice. Prob being thick but say for instance Im training chest for which I normally do 4 sets bench, 4 sets incline and 4 sets flies would I train the last set of flies to failure? Another problem I feel I have is the fact that I dont train on set days due to work commitments. I always get my training sessions in at some point in the week but do you think its important to train at the same time every week or is the fact that I get the training done the most important thing? |

The nervous system needs a break as well as the muscles. I have found that training two days consecutively is less productive as the second days workout is always compromised, which for me manifests itself in the 'vague' feeling I get from the session. If I allow a full days rest between each session, I feel everything so much better & no workout seems to be below par. Doing it this way also makes for a good rotation through a four way split, as for example, chest would not land on the same day each week. It also avoids me getting into the same cycle as everyone else in the gym. How many times have you gone to train, only to find that the entire world & his mother are on the same bodypart as you so you can't get on a damn thing?
