How much do you guys row?

Was training back last night and put up the weight on my bend over row, how much weight can you guys handle? i just worry that im going to do my back in again if i go to heavy. Was doing 65k for 5 x 8.

120kg on an E-Z bar, but very, very strict form, with a pause at the midpoint. if you can't hold the weight at the contraction, chances are it has gotten there by using everything else as well as the lats.

Don't worry about weight bud, keep it strict, slow, hold at the contraction & dig deep into the lats.

Cheers ninepack, will give that a try next time, always forget about the pause! while we on the subject of back do you do pulldowns to the front or back, i usely do them to the front but im sure you must hit the upper back alittle more doing it behind your neck, it felt that way last night, am i right in thinking that?

it depends on whether you mean single arm or barbell, personally i find that single arm dumbells are more productive that using a bar, currently doing 42.5kg dumbell per side

Im talking about barbel rows, one arm dumbell rows im using 40kgs, can go heavier with these as it doesnt kill my back.

Never, ever do anything behind the neck bud. It's just asking for trouble. The presses & pulldowns behind neck carry no greater potential for muscle stimulation than doing them in front, but they carry a far greater injury risk.

What you are doing when performing a behind the neck movement is totally unnatural. You abduct the humerus, then externally rotate it to very near to it's maximum, and then ask the muscles to handle a heavy weight in this vulnerable position. Not good. It's this type of movement & flat benching that is responsible for 95% of guys in the gym getting rotator cuff injuries. You see them regularly at the BB shows, telling stories about how they used to have a great physique & would have competed one day if not for a massive shoulder injury.

Don't end up one of those guys who has to stop training due to an injury. train smart, and you'll still be training in your old age while your peers have long since stopped.

agree fully did my neck and shoulders in wen first started due to been told do things behind my head no longer do it and no longer have problems
also carnt no longer do incline bench just murders my sholders and neck

bb rows 1 do 140kg 4 around 5 forms dips a bit at that heavy but can do 120kg easy for 8-10
do feel like am guna throw up after though lol:puke:

I done 170KG Barbell Row pretty strict last week, I have only ever done it 3 Times.

Better to watch the back when you go heavy, because it is very easy to rip a muscle in this position.
