Post Numbness in hands

Hey guys, iv been training for about a year or so now and for the last 3-4 months or so iv noticed that im getting numb hands when i sleep in certain positions, which i never had when i trained.

I thinki its just the fact that my chest is bigger now so more force is put on my upper arms when i sleep on my side, hence restricted blood flow. Am i right to assume this or should i be worried?

Thanks for any comments guys!

Re: Numbness in hands

Sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome. Are you training naturally?

Re: Numbness in hands

Could be a nerve impingement near the bicep, if you are sleeping on your arm as your post suggests. Is the whole hand numbe or just one side or the other? You have three nerves to the hand, radial, Ulna, Median.

Is your hand cold, when it is numb? that is probably blood vessel impingment, for which I suggest you stop sleeping on your arm! lol

As long as the feeling comes back this isn't a mjor problem. If you have other symtpoms such as pain or swelling in your arm or wrist, then go see your GP as 9pack says, it could be carpel tunnel.

You don't need to be very concerned, but a checkup wouldn't hurt.

Your just sleeping on a nerve lol, probably the median but the middle finger is tricky as ulnar I think does one side of it.

If it s only at night then you are sleeping on it, otherwise it could be inflammation further up the arm and anti-inflams may help.

Re: Numbness in hands

I had terrible pins and needles at night, it would wake me every night.

I first went to my GP about it when I was 21 (long before gear or bodybuilding), it wasn't too bad then it just came and went but was annoying. My GP said to wait a while.

I went back 9 years later with my pins and needles so bad I couldn't ride my motorbike and I was getting it when holding cutlery by this time. My GP said with all his worldly wisdom on this subject "Its the steroids, stop them and it will go away".

We a couple of years later I find out I've got a heart defect and stop training and any performance enhancers, so a couple of years after my heart op I went back to my GP and he couldn't blame training or gear so referred me to hospital where I was diagnosed with bad carpal tunnell and had both hands operated on which fixed the issue.

One hand was done 12 months ago and the other 6 months ago, the pins and needles are there every now and again and from what I've since found out the condition is likely to return as the years go on.

Go and see a chiropracter as a disc out of place can cause a pinching of the nerves and in turn cause this. If you can avoid the op I would say do so.

Re: Numbness in hands

Also take physiotherapy advice, a physiotherapist can give you many simple execises to do at home or work to help alleviate carpel tunnel syndrome.

Extreme,
Bit of a late diagnosis this, but have you ever considered that the vibrations from the bike handlebars were to blame? I'm not a biker, but my uncle has been all his life. He suffers from tingling & numbness in his hands 24/7. He is into old classic bikes which tend to shake the fillings out of your teeth though. His problem is similar to the industrial injury complaint 'vibration white finger'.
