Re: Weighted Shrugs

The aim is to try and touch your ears with your shoulders, keeping your shoulders back, and squeezing and pausing at the top of the contraction, what ever you do dont rotate your shoulder in forward or backward motion as this can cause injury in the long run, Are you using a bar or dumbells?

At last, wise words indeed!!!! I get really wound up when I see people shrugging & rotating the shoulders. Don't know why, it just gets on my nerves & despite me trying to advise them, most carry on trashing thier shoulders with this silly movement.

A shrug is a very simple movement, I do them with dumb bells as each side has to work independently, but it's basically a case of just dragging your shoulders up as high as you can. Some have a longer range of motion than others, but as long as you feel the contraction at the top it's fine. I keep the weight heavy, but not crazy as I like to do them really slowly. It's a slow, deliberate drag up for four seconds, then pause at the midpoint, and four seconds down. Two sets after delts, one moderate, one failure. Takes me very nearly three mins to complete shrugs.
