Sqauts - locking the bar technique?

Hi,

Just wondering if theres a particular technique for locking the bar when doing squats because often when I squat a heavy weight, it digs into my shoulders and neck really badly. How can I advoid this, or is this just something you have to put up with? I'm seen some guys with the padding which goes on the abr, but I think they bring it with them to the gym, because I've never actually seen it in the gym.

Also on another note, to stop me starting yet another thread lol. How much protein should I take in each day I'm 16 (17 on friday lol!!) 95kg, pretty lean. As I go to sixth form I find it hard to eat waht i want when I want, so at the moment I can only take on about 150 grams a day. Should I be taking on 200+?

Cheers guys! (that sounds really gay lol)

Re: Sqauts - locking the bar technique?

You get used to it. Experiment with bar position. Some people like it high up in their shoulders, others like it further back on their traps. The placement of the bar has a HUGE impact on your balance/form of the movement, so play about with it and figure out what is most comfortable/natural to you.

As for protein for a 95kg lean guy who wants to gain mass, I would say 300g of protein a day as a bare minimum IMO, and ideally more in the 350-400g range.

As Big said, it's personal preference mate. Don't just listen and do whatever someone tells you because this may not feel comfortable for you.

Have a play about (obviously not with any weight on) with the bar only and see what feels the best.

Re: Sqauts - locking the bar technique?

As Big said find a technique that works for you, personally I prefer the bar to be as far back as possible so it feels like its almost going to roll of my back.

You need to up the protein mate, 150g a day isn't going to cut it.

Best of luck,
Jock
