Getting the bar on your shoulders

Non of the magazines or books I have deal with movements to get the bar on your shoulders ready for squats or other movements.

I imagine you would use a clean and jerk or a snatch or something like that but I am not real that confident that I know those movements very well.

Can anyone help?

Most people have access to a squat rack like this:

I'm sorry I dont. I also think lifting the weight must be of use anyway.
Dont you think?

Not sure how much you can squat, but I certainly wouldn't be comfortable (or possibly able) to lift 100kg+ over my head and rest it down safely on my traps.

If you are lifting over your head then yeah, as long as your form is good, it should be some benefit. Do you have access to a bench with rests for a barbell? Maybe you could squat under this after loading and lift from there.

Re: Getting the bar on your shoulders

Squat with dumbells perhaps? Unless you are using a light squat weight it's unlikely you are going to be able to clean, press and return the bar to your traps.

I don't really see how you can safely squat under a bench press bar holder as the bench will be between your legs, if you trip......well I dont wanna think about it.

Safest option is dumbells IMHO.

HTH good luck!

Re: Getting the bar on your shoulders

How about getting 2 lengths of sturdy twine, attatching a hook to one end of each piece, and attatching them to the ceiling so the hooks are at the required height. Hey presto, instant squat rack!
Actually, thinking about it, they might swing a bit......I'd go with the dumbells instead.

Re: Getting the bar on your shoulders

A power rack/cage would be ideal really.

A power rack/cage would allow you to do 3/4 deads (or whatever they are called, squats and bench safely. I wouldn't buy them new. Check your local paper or the classifieds here.
