Chin-Ups

When doing wide grip chin-ups should you lower yourself the whole way down so your arms are straight and then pull yourself up, or stop before full straightening of the arms???

Cheers, s_t

i,ll be brutaly honest here

as i cant do them ( too heavy ) for my strength to weight ratio, ( probably should read, too fat ), i probably shouldnt post to this but in my opinion would it not be better to stop just before lockout ( straight arms ) so that there is a constant contraction on the muscle ?

I also agree that weighted if posssible would be a good idea.

IMO what ever you feel comfatable with, dont think theres a better way, but what john said makes sense for a change! when u have weight on you you will find u dont go all the way down (lock out) well I do anyway ;)

Yes full range with a stretch is better, this allows for more full range of development of muscle and the stretch will aid in flexibility.
I stretch the scapula at the bottom.

Are you doing them weighted or just using your own bodyweight as resistance??

How dyna? Is it cant do any more reps? if so go on to the lat pull down, and work up untill you can do a good weight, or start on the pull ups - when you can't do any more carry on with the lat pull down....

If its need to do more weight then stick a DB in your legs or get a chain for your belt.

IMO need to stretch out at the bottom and hold at the top. Love em!

hit the nail on the head bro

been doing these for a while now, and knew this was coming, cant complete any more reps than what ive doing, been stuck on the same amount of reps for 3 weeks today

ive tried, with weight, then without to try and bring the progress back up to speed but ive plateaued on them now

and likie you said above, been streching right down, pausing for a sec while momentum ceases, then back up to the top with a squeeze

Right well try on the lat machine, just doing half reps from stretched out and pull the lat bar half down then back to stretch, these half reps may help you to push on. This is the hardest part of the move IMO as after this point more arms shoulders come in to play.

Good luck bro!

**this is just IMO as I dont have any degrees in sports science or nothing, just what I have felt when doing them- before someone starts with some science thing!!!!

You could try Plyo pullups

Or Heavy Singles

Or assisted

or negatives

also try Narrow grip, heavy pulls to sternum

.
