Tension and control

Does anyone know what the purpose of doing benefit of doing tension and control exercises? (for instance the plank, oblique plank, back plank, etc)

Thats all core work.. which IMO is bollocks

if u do heavy squats/deads...and othe rbig compounds your core will be strong enough imo..

however if u wanna try constant tension exercises

squat down to parrallel and stay there fro 3 secs then carry on wiht the squat do a set of 10 it kills...

i think doing somethign different once in a while is great for the body

^^^ i agree mate ^^ its a bit too "mens health" for me.

my theory is if you've been picking up a dumbell for enuff years (like us)

then, your core stability is developed already.

tho it depends what kind of thing your into....most martial arts etc, and even dance, require a different level of stability and flexibility than doing what we do ( liftin eavy fings!)

a mate of mine does gymnastics and told me he has to do it for conditioning, I just wondered what the purpose of the exercises were is all! Cheers for the help lads

To hit your core muscles in a nut shell...which in turn improves posture(height) speed/strength/power output/flexability/re alignment...

Now when your improve core strength you also improve your 3 plane of motion which increases your power output and stability which reduces the risk of injury,als a strong core also improves your own energy out put..ie..giving you more enrgy through evverything being properly aligned...

Nothing could be further from the truth....been training myself for 18+yrs and when I started "PROPER" core work it really showed me how little regular bbing exercise actually work in regards to functional strength/stability/power output/speed/agility and overall general bodily health..ie..keeping us injury free..

Proper core and gpp work really seperates the men from the boys..and shows us a lot of weaknesses in ourselves aswell..imho
