How quick do carbs work?
Hi, may sound like a silly question but I am on a protein rich diet and trying to cut out carbs, however, can I have extra carbs on training days to give me more energy in the gym and then on the following days revert back to minimal carbs?
If so how long before training should I take carbs if I was training at 5pm (for example)? Is it about an hour before, n the morning or even the day before?
Thanks
Wooz

Re: How quick do carbs work?
One thing i noticed when i dropped my carbs to below 100g is that I needed the carbs the day before my workout day not really on the actual day for energy.
So I would have 200g the day before and drop to 100g or less on the actual day taking in most of the days carbs pre and pwo...why dont you just experiment and see what works best for you?

Re: How quick do carbs work?
Simple carbs convert to glucose very quickly and complex take longer, once you have trained hard for an hour or more and have part or fully depleated your glycogen levels then as part of your post workout shake you add a small amount of carbs they will be converted quickly and used to help restore your levels, this is a time that you want an insulin spike, an maybe an apple before training would also be acceptable.
On none training days you would not require these extra carbs, I have simple carbs twice a day every morning, because I have fasted for several hours, and PWO on training days...
