Extreme Water Retention

Guys,

Ok ive been on a cut now for a while, now i have a holiday coming up for 2 weeks in egypt. Now in the past when ive come off my normal low carb diet and back to normal eating, im talking a small portion of boiled potatoes or a sandwich with bread, i get EXTREME Water retention.

Im talking 1.5 stone in 5 days, and about 2-3inch's on my waist and i just feel bloated, this is even keeping my calories below 2000 a day. Ive tried keeping my protein intake up and still keeping carbs low but only slightly higher than my usual cutting diet, but it still happens. Ive also tried

Lowering water intake to just 2L a days
Upping water intake to 6L a day
Upping calories to 2500 a day
And also adding 50g of carbs a day 5 days before i go on a holiday

But nothing works, im only guessing its carbs doing this, but thats a guess.

Anyone have any ideas on how to reduce this as i dont wanna look like Jaba the Hut after 5 days in egypt and be a big bag of water wondering around i do like seeing my abs haha.

Thanks for the help guys

Matthew

Re: Extreme Water Retention

That does sound like very extreme water retention. Perhaps the carbs your adding in don't agree with you and you have some sort of food intolerance? Is it certain carbs? Unless your getting very dehydrated in Egypt around 3-4L of water would be a good balance.

Re: Extreme Water Retention

Well this happening normally when i go netherlands it used to happen cause i used to have just like 5 days of pure greedy eatting haha i mean McD's and loads of ****, about 6k cals a day. But then the last 3 times i have been to see the mrs i have made sure to keep the food reletively clean and control the cals and it still happens, then when i go back to my normal diet literally a week later i have lost 1.5 stone and my abs are back :S.

Its just normal food i ate different things everydays somedays wholemeal bread other days a croissant the next day a white burger bap. But i would try and keep the carbs to 2 fist size portions a day. So im not even eating alot of carbs at all :S

Re: Extreme Water Retention

Either a food allergy or your cortisol levels are very high which will cause massive water retention. its usually responsible when youre dieting very had with no refeeds.

Re: Extreme Water Retention

Those foods you mentioned are all wheat/gluten based so maybe it is a food intolerance

Re: Extreme Water Retention

Hmmm well cortisol problem is a interesting one as i dont usually do refeeds, as i find this slows down my progress. But i only cut for 2 weeks to 2.5 weeks periods so find this is such a small period i wouldnt need a refeed.

Would food intolerance cause retention though? i dont get a bloated stomach or anything only with milk as i know im lactose intolerant. I leterally go flabby like a nice layer of water under there.

Re: Extreme Water Retention

I'm no expert so wouldn't like to say for sure however from personal experience when I eat lots of wheat based products I take a turn for the worse and look terribly bloated. Have a look at the links below for a pic of me bloated and also info on food intolerances.

This is what happened to me after my recent show. I done over 2 weeks of depleting to make an earlier show and afterwards i drank a fair bit of water, had a protein bar and a sandwich. Then the following day, more or less back on diet with carbs upped to that of pre depleting. By the end of this day i was up almost 4kg and by the friday up a further 2kg.....No bad foods, normal dieting foods etc.

However, now a week and half later, still on same macros but alot more water and now the water is dissipating well. I have been told this rebound can take 7-10days to turn around providing the diet is in check. This has proved correct in my case...

Re: Extreme Water Retention

Well what i am going to do i think is seeing i have no carbs at all in the average day apart from 54g oats in the morning and green veg. Im off to Netherlands for 2 days Next thursday so ill start that by adding extra carbs to my day, and use rice or something. Then ill keep adding carbs slightly for the next 5 days before i head off to egypt hopefully that should stop it, its so annoying as, as soon as it happens i cant fit into any of my damn jeans lol
