![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Iv'e been reading a lot of articles on the net lately about diets and nutrition and to be quite honest it just does my frigin head in. I get overloaded with all this info. Glycemic index, simple carbs, complex carbs etc. I know what these mean but sometimes I feel things are contradicted. I read on net and peoples advice on here about substituting some carbs like rice, spuds etc for vegetables. Only vegetables have hardly any calories in at all. But too many starchy carbs may be converted into fat because of their higher GI rating. See if you guys can answer me a few things. Say I have 100 grams of rice(wholegrain) with tuna. Would it be better to have say 50 grams and make the other cals up with veg. This would mean I would need about 150 calories from veg, which is a lot of veg. What veggies are best? Which have a low gI but with more calories. I think bean sprouts and cauliflower..? Another thing, I read years ago about how oats were best for breakfast but there GI is about 55 which is hardly low. I love the iron but the nutrition side has always peed me off.:axe: What do you lot think?(probably that I'm talking sh*t and am a crazy barsteward ) |

Veggies... go for greens every time. GI of oats is low. 55 isn't high at all... although I thought oats were more like 45.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | So you have more calories from fats than carbs big? How much fat do you consume a day then? I'd find it damn hard to eat the amount of veggie carbs to make the same calories as rice, spuds ,etc. I don't like eating much. Sounds strange but if I could pop a pill as a meal I would. |

I have 1-2 carb-up days a week (depending on my progress that week) where I drop the fats right down and take in around 200-400g of carbs. This is cutting, which is what I'm doing right now.

Taking in lots of protein is a GREAT idea for building/keeping muscle/strength IMO. A lot of people who weigh less than 200lbs will tell you that you only need x protein (where x is usually less than 200), but if you look at MOST of the big/strong guys around... they're eating tons of protein.
