Boiled eggs??

Does anyone else have this problem when boiling eggs??

Boil them up and then cool them down (easy enough) but when you come to peel them, sometimes the shell doesn't come off very easily. There is a membrane between shell and white and most times the shell is attached to it but other times they seem to seperate and you end up pulling of big bits of the white aswell as shell!!!!

Any ideas why this happens and how to stop it??

I've tried leaving them to air cool and also running them under cold water but it still does it, its annoying...........

Re: Boiled eggs??

I think that boiling them for longer could help you out?

Its worth a go. Ive been boiling mine for 10-15 mins just lately. I like them really hard with no liquid or softness in them at all.

Also when they are done - run cold water on them, drain it off and shake the sauce pan with them in, so they clatter together this should break alot of the shell off.

Hope it Helps

Re: Boiled eggs??

Ok heres my tip. When boiling them throw in salt into the boiling water. So when the eggs are dry they should be easier to peel. Give it a try.

Re: Boiled eggs??

Also what i have found is when you have boiled and cooled your eggs and they are ready to be peeled try hitting the bottom of the egg so that the shell breaks (this is the thick end of the egg) and peel it from there upwards as i was having this problem and this helped me!

I have it on good faith from my wife that if you use more salt in the water it should come off easy

Re: Boiled eggs??

If the eggs are very fresh, they may be more difficult to peel.....or if they're not properly cold.

I usually boil up my eggs when they get a bit old

Re: Boiled eggs??

Boil eggs with salt in water, drain off water, run pan with eggs in under cold tap for 2mins, leave pan 1/2 full of water, put on lid and shake pan. Shells will fall off themselves. I boil 4-6 eggs every day and haven't had to peel one in weeks.
