![]() | Cut/Bulk? Is it necessary? Hi folks. I've been thinking about this for a while so i thought i'd throw it out there and get some opinions on it. I dont get the whole cut/bulk thing that alot of guys do. Everyone seems to be "on a cut", or "on a bulk". Say i'm 165lbs. So if i make sure i eat over 220g of protein, pyramid my carbs, lots in the morning, less as the day goes on, then none at night, plus eat a good range of foods at the right times during the day including oily fish, nuts, plenty veg etc and hit my calorie requirement, then i will stay lean. I still seem to be putting on muscle eating like this. If i need to loose a bit of fat i increase my cardio and trim my carbs a bit. So my question is.... would i gain more from doing the bulk thing that everyone does?? I cant understand how. All the guys i see swaggering/waddeling about my gym seem to be on a constant bulk but have a good bit of fat. I must be missing the point as to how increasing food intake to be a good bit more than the body needs (hence the storage of fat) then dieting hard (and losing some muscle) would do any good. Surely the body needs a certain amout of carbs, protein, fats, calories to built muscle, anymore than this it just adding calories which wont be burnt off and will be stored as fat. So my theory is, if i hit this limit spot on i will gain and stay lean. Hit me with it. |

The guys who ask the questions about why bulking is nessary are usualy sub 200lbs.. Some people say that you can add good mass without getting fat, however they are usualy going to be keyboard warriors or non-heavyweights. Ask a heavyweight how he gets to compete at 100kg+ on stage and 9 times out of 10 he will gain a extensive amount of extra weight in the off seasion. If you intend to be a bicep/chest boy or a mens health type body then no its not nessary or hit the stage at sub 80kg then sure go for the lean bulker idea but look at how the pros do it, theres a reasion why they do preps of 22-18 weeks thats a lot of weight to lose. Why change somthing that works? its like saying "No I want square wheels man, I dont like round ones it cramps my style.." and to address why people are walking or "waddling" around the gym most of the time, maby they dont care what they look like except on contest day when it counts? sure everyone would like to look ripped and swole for the girls/boys but I for one would rather bring somthing freaky on the day it counted rather than being meh year round myself - I have nothing to prove to the people in the supermarket/gym/bus stop/club. But then peoples objectives are diffrent. Last edited by wogihao; 03-05-2008 at 10:31 PM. |

Would you not be faster bulking like mad for x amount of time then stripping any fat gained on a quick cut then bulk again etc just like a pro bodybuilder to, this would ensure you gain more lean muscle faster? just trying to gain muscle without fat (without being on roids) is kind of a hard and slow process no? |

Is it necessary? why dont you clean bulk?? i find it very confusing why guys seem to think you need to eat so much crap that you will gain a massive amount of fat only to strip it off later.... if you slowly increase the calories from clean foods over weeks so your body can handle the higher influx you will gain size, yes it takes time but no one said it would be easy. dont try and gain X amount of pounds in a matter of weeks give yourself 6-12 months and make your goals acheivable building muscle is hard even with steroids doing it naturally is even hader but there is no reason to get fat whilst you do it....
