more protein!!

Hey guys id like to increase the ammount of protein in my diet. I' ve been consuming my regular 3 protein shakes a day, 2 tuna cans, and a chicken fillet. However, since im currently at university my budget is becoming a little strict. I have considered eating more protein, but i am becoming a little conscious about the amount of mercury levels in my body after reading a few articles on the net regarding the intake of tuna and the levels of mercury in the body. Can i discredit this? If not, then can someone possibly suggest a food product which contrains a high amount of protein for a person with a limited financial situation?

Thanks

P.S. First post on the board :p :lift:

Re: more protein!!

hi mate, and welcome. is what you mentioned where all or majority comes from of your protien? do you necasarilly need to up it?

first off cheap protien AND good fats you can get from eggs, £1.19 from tesco for 15 load up in the fridge and get them down ya. if you really need to save money id say forget buying protien powders and use the money on proper food. ust my 2p tho mate. why are you upping the protien?

have you got a basic macros ie fats/carbs/prot per day (g) and kcals

also whats you stats and aims

gd luck warren

Re: more protein!!

Well in university, this is where the majority of my protein comes from indeed, my diet is a little messed up i guess. Fortunately for me, i have kind parents who supply me with my protein shakes :P
Also, i thought eating too much eggs were bad for you also, or is this just a sily myth??! Im upping the protein because i want to add muscle mass for bulking. Im unsure of my intakes of carbs n fats, but im sure that it is sufficient as i eat pasta almost daily etc..

my stats are
6ft
190 pounds

my short term aim is to increase my body weight fro 13 stone 6 to 14 stone

thx :lift:

Re: more protein!!

ok well id pop your diet up if i were you and have it critiqued. you may not necasariy need to up your protien maybee its your carbs and fats that are two low, you can only digest so much protien per hour anyway.

yeah the eggs being bad for you is a myth, there is a search button on the top of the home page you will find it very helpfull, so have a look uo on diets and training routines, there is a good beginers routine by a guy calleg th&s look it up. the searc button is your friend mate.

Re: more protein!!

I'm at uni and I get my protein from

Chicken - Cheap at market (1or2 breasts a day)
Beef - Cheap at market (Spagettic bolognase or similar a day)
Eggs - Cheap at market (3 eggs, 3 slices toast a day)
Tuna - Cheapish from supermarket (1tin, jacket potatoe a day)
Protein shake (1 a day) - Cheap when u buy a big bulk purchase (with water PWO)

Not to mention the protein you get from the other aspects of your meal.

Then occasional steak / turkey / meal out or fast food when you can afford it is good too.

There you've got 5 or 6 meals a day containing at least 30g of protein which I'm guessing would be ok for you.

When it comes to money at uni, remember, if you train, you need to eat alot. If you can't afford to eat well... don't drink so much... don't waste money on other things. If you find this hard then consider whether you are ready for training at this stage in your life.
