Gaining muscle on low carb

Hey guys I apologize if this seems like a dumb question but I'd rather be a fool for a second than a fool forever!

My question is; can I lose fat whilst on a very low carb diet and still gain lean muscle and strength? Even though I am still intaking around 4500kcals a day in proteins/fats? I know I need excess cals for muscle growth but would this also stop me losing fat (or would it make me gain more still?) I can my logic may be very flawed  In essence what I wish to know is that can I still lose fat (need a lower bfp) whilst on a 10g of carbs a day diet consisting of around 4500kcals plus continue to gain strength and lean muscle?

Thank you very much for any input I know this may seem daft to you vets but it beats me going down the wrong street!

It's not ideal but it most certainly can be done, look up a guy called Charles Poliquin on the net or Lyle McDonald.

Both of these guys are gurus when it comes to low carb nutrition.

Me? I stay WELL away I like my carbs.

Re: Gaining muscle on low carb

Well Tall said it all. I'm on a TKD diet & my strength has gone up this week. Good fats give me more energy thanany carb ever does.

Fats stimulate the release of Noradrenaline so it helps keep you awake. I always try to make my mid afternoon meal reasonably high in fat (peanut butter, or oils with something) to keep me awake ( i hate the mid-afternoon lull).

Carbs are great before bed (unless you are really carb intolerant) because they help to release serotonin (makes you feel calm and sleepy). So a combination of cottage cheese, yoghurt (high in tryptophan a precursor for serotonin) and a banana (high in carbs and naturally-occurring serotonin) is a superb pre-bed meal.
