Jamie Oliver Chicken

Hi,

Did any of you watch the program (Cant remember the name) where Jamie Oliver was showing the different kinds of chickens - free range, caged etc... has this changed any of your views on chicken? or will you still buy the cheapest there is (well i guess its the same amount of protein content?)

Also ther was some discussion about these liquid egg, and powdered egg products having the "reject" eggs in them - and we dont know WHERE these eggs come from (ie. from free range/caged etc chickens)

Well im vegetarian so it doesnt effect me - but those who are keen on their chicken has this changed your views?

Re: Jamie Oliver Chicken

My mum buys free range chickens and eggs, imagine I get through like 3 whole chickens a week quiet a big of eggs thats like £40 + when she could get the battery **** for like £10-15.

I am against animal cruely big style but when I eventualy move out I wont be able to afford free range organic ****.

Re: Jamie Oliver Chicken

ive always bought Free range eggs, i prefer the taste i go through a lot but eggs are dirt cheap anyway, wether there free range or not.

I must admit though i have been buying organic chickens since watching the program, i suppose its a bit hipocrtical (sp?) but i want to know my chicken had a good life before ending up on my plate, i dont like the thought of 500 chickens squashed together doing nothing but being fed and walking around in each others feces..Free range all the way for me

I am trying to cut down on the amount of chicken I buy, and try and get free range now when I do...

Re: Jamie Oliver Chicken

I be honest I am a big fan of Jamie Oliver and did watch the programe.

I would advise people to try and find a local farm shop, there is one close to where i live and they sell lamb, chickens, wild boar and all other sorts.

The quality is much better and i have been pretty surpirsed at the cost of fresh friut n veg n eggs..... Also do the best honey which comes from the hives in essex... aparantly it makes you immune to hayfever and stuff....

Interesting stuff....... Give it a go...

All the best !

Only locally though, if you were to go out of the area you would still suffer from hayfever...

Re: Jamie Oliver Chicken

IMO all supermarket should phase out battery chickens, which would bring down the price of Free Range as demand would be higher, I do but free range eggs most of the time, but TBH do not even consider it when buying meat, which I should.

I understand that, but I do not feel that animals need to be treated cruelly while they are being processed for food.
