35g of Fish Oil?

Just been reading this:

"By Charles Poliquin

In many seminars, I always get asked which supplements are best to gain mass. My answers will surprise many of you.

Here they are:

1. Fish Oil

What? Fish oil? That is not cool, avant-garde, sexy, or exotic. Fish oil?

Yes. Fish oil. You cannot be anabolic with enough Omega 3s. For example, I was once training a first-round pick for the NFL. He put on 29 lbs of lean body mass in one month once I jacked his fish oil intake to 45 grams a day. If you want to put muscle on and lose fat, take at least 30 grams of fish oil a day.

Additional reasons for using fish oil include:

It reduces inflammation.
It improves insulin sensitivity: makes glucose and amino acids get better in your starved muscle cells.

Taking fish oil in a liquid form is the most economical way of doing it. But taking them every meal works best. I always recommend a combination of liquid and capsules - Liquid for home meals, and capsules for away from home meals."

Unfortunately, I haven't got the whole article, but has anyone come across this guy before? I mean I take between 5-10 per day, but 35-40g? WTF?

Hopefully, Hacks will jump on this thread and shed some light. Would it be worth a go?

Re: 35g of Fish Oil?

Has anyone tried fish oil liquid? I've seen lemon flavoured and thought about adding this to shakes if it isn't like licking out a whale...

Re: 35g of Fish Oil?

I've read about this before.

CP knows his stuff, a very well respected coach.

TBH I do like Fish Oils in my diet and I take about 10g a day minimum.

Make sure you use a high strength Vit E supplement as there are lots of toxins in Refined Fish Oils apparently which can cause problems at high doses.

Re: 35g of Fish Oil?

I've never gone that high, but fish oil is one of the most amazing things there is, I read a thing once that if Phama companies could patent it, then it would be prescribed for a huge amount of ills, but as they cant, and no money is to be made, the benefits are not widely publicised.

I don't doubt that higher may be better, you need to try and see, but CP certainly had nothing to gain from the article, as fish oil can be bought anywhere.

I try and get 10g + per day, but 1g per 10lb of bodyweight is a good guide for the higher end of the spectrum.

Tom, in a Consumer Lab test all Fish Oil tested clean for toxins, Mercury etc, and was fully dosed, but Fish Oil is easily oxidised so the extra Vit E is a very good idea, I take 800iu per day myself.

Re: 35g of Fish Oil?

Good post Nytol

I remember reading about needing the Vit E somewhere I think it was Toxic T that higlighted it.

I think the toxins thing came from Tony Barnes in a debate over fish oils and Udos.

So I probably confused the two. lol

Re: 35g of Fish Oil?

I like Charles work but 35g a day being anabolic seems off the mark. Many people on the MP board have played around with high does of fish oils and the consensus seems to be high doses only for a cutting. The benifits where not the same bulking. I think most where only using 15-20g a day though.

Edit: Lets see someone try it and report back.
