| Getting bigger | What is a safe amount of tuna to eat I have been reading on tuna containing a lot of mercury, saying that half a tin contains 60% mercury and the story goes on to say that an athelete developed brain rot. I eat about 7-10 tins per week but now considering swapping tuna out. Anyone comments on what you think about/consume tuna ?

| Getting bigger | Re: What is a safe amount of tuna to eat It sounds a lot I know but the article I read stated 60%, I can not vouch for the story and personaly think its much exagerated. Just wondering if anyone had any figures of their own maybe working in the food industry.

IMHO I wouldn't listen to all these things as if they were true a lot more people would be having things go wrong with them all the time, especially bodybuilders as i know a lot of us eat a fair amount of tuna! Its the same as when they said that too many eggs are bad for you but again i have a load of these, always have done and always will as again these are good quality source of protein, i personally say to hell with all this crap they come out with you only live once anyway so you might as well live how you wanna live, eat what you wanna eat and as long as your health and happy then who cares! |

The reference to 60% may well have meant 60% higher than the 'safe' limit (though I would argue that any is unsafe). Tuna, are by thier nature a very large, old fish when harvested so will have accumulated a lot of toxins in thier system by then. If it were 60%, none of the b*ggers would survive to be harvested. Think about it & don't believe everything you read.

That said though I'm sure eating too much of anything is bad for you, just be sensible and vary your diet, protein sources etc and I'm sure you won't have a problem.. Everything in moderation ;) |

Maybe that's why I sweat so much these days....something to do with all the mercury that must be kicking around in my system. Maybe I'll die one day. Oh dear. No more tuna for me. Ever. I shall just eat whey, oats & apples. & maybe some raisons thrown in for good measure, & a handful of sunflower seeds on special occasions (like birthdays & things, possibly also at Christmas, although I think that I'll vary it with some sesame seeds at Easter, but not on Good Friday as I shall be fasting then). |
