Oats - how much?

Hi Guys,

Could you help me please.

I am training good at the moment the thing is my diet is getting better as I am learning more and more (with the help from this site).

I am generally training for lean muscle size with a little cardio in there as well (10 mins before and after). 07.00hrs, Mon, wed and Fridays.

I start off every day off with 100g of porridge with 1 and a half scoops of whey at around 06.00hrs. I then lower my carbs throughout the day (5 meals per day).

I thought I should start off with the most I could eat for breakfast and then taper my meals down therafter through the day.

I am about 5'8'' and weigh 73kg.

My main concern is how much oats should I be eating each morning and should this amount change on my none training days?

Please help, thanks

Lee

Hi Lee,

As long as its within your calories and a portion that totals less than 800-1000 cals per sitting (rather than as much as you can eat), then your portion of oats is fine. I would add fruit to it too (see breakfast of champions in recipe section).

As you taper your carbs remember to switch your starchy and fast carbs for fibrous carbs closer to bedtime.

Re: Oats - how much?

I can only manage 50g oats in the morning.
I see you lot have your oats with water, am I wrong to have it with milk?

Re: Oats - how much?

Hi Old man - you are not wrong at all. It is personal preference really. If you have it with water then there will be less calories.

I used to have mine with milk but as I train at 07.15 each morning I find that if I have porridge with milk it bloats me up and I just feel sick when training.

Another thing is that by the time I have finished training (about 08.30) I am peckish again so that way I am pleased that it has done its job. If I had it with milk I would probably be filled up till 11'ish.

Somehow, the fact that I have water means I can swollow it quickly and it does not repeat on me. Plus, I am not lactose intolorent but I have investigated insurance claims for dairys and beleive me I dont want to be having too much of that stuff inside me!!!
