![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Saturated Fats Obviously you should avoid saturated fats as much as possible. However, it's very difficult to avoid them altogether. What is everyones view on the maximum amount of saturated fat that should be consumed per day ? I think I probably consume about 10-20g per day. |

You have to have some saturated fats in your diet. Did you know that testosterone is made from cholesterol? Low fat diets are not healthy? Cholesterol lowering statin drugs may cause muscle weakness and liver problems? ![]() It would be more accurate to say avoid hydrogenated oils and trans fats. At any cost. I think that the saturated fat hype is kind of BS. But if a forth of the fat taken in or even a third of all fat taken in was saturated that is just fine. I always eat my eggs whole, I never ever drink skim or non fat milk. I use heavy cream in my coffee, I dont even buy lean meats as the fat tasts better and it lubes up the pan I cook it in, so I dont have to pre-coat the pan with some vegetable oil that is inferior to cooking with. I am not a milk drinker but if I was it would be whole milk.

![]() | Fat should total 30% of kcals in total. Of this it should be split roughly 1:2:1 sat:mono:poly, of which the poly should be 1:1 or 1:2 of omega3:omega6. Thats the recommeded guidlines by most health organisations. I agree with hackskii - saturated fats are essential, especially within a bodybuilders diet for the hormonal influence they have. They also provide essential immune system support, structure to cells, and support liver function. Most fat within heart disease patients' arteries is either unsaturated or plant based fats by about 3:1, saturated just gets bad publicity a few years ago. IMO you are by far safer cooking food in saturated fats - i'd avoid heating unsaturated fats like the plague cos they'll do far more damage to not only your physique but more importantly your health. My 2p's worth. Hope it helps mb |
