Karl Sanders is on a distinguished road
Is the 1.4 grams per KG of bodyweight true?

Is this a good guide to determine how much daily protein I need? As a beginner I am a skinny 62 kg which would mean I only need 90 grams of protein a day, and I only need to increase this daily intake as i get bigger. Is this correct? Or is the optimum ratio more like 1.7, I have read conflicting accounts online.

In my experience, if you are looking to gain mass, you need boatloads of protein. 90g/day will not cut it.

I would suggest at your weight, starting with 300g of protein.

a good rule of thumb for gaining weight is to set the amount to 1.5-2g of protein per lb of bodyweight so for yourself you should be looking at..
200g - 275g of protein per day
500g - 650g of carbs per day
50g - 75g of good fats per day

90 would be a little low.
Bottom would be 1 g of protein for 1 lb of bodyweight.
This is what I try to get in.

I agree with Pscarb, I'd go for 1.5-2g of protein per lb of LBW.
