Question: I eat a lot of eggs and tuna. Do you think that's okay?

Here is an interesting article by Negrita I thought of sharing with you peeps:

Answer by negrita jayde (Body Fitness Dec 2005):
Eggs are rich in protein, which is good, and if you buy only one form of organic food, makeit your eggs. Organically produced eggs have a proportion of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids 1:1, whereas in standard eggs it is 19:1. It's not that you should avoid eggs because of their high cholesterol, but because of the excess omega 6 fatty acids. Most bodybuilders could safely eat 1-2 dozen eggs a week if suitable precautions were taken to ensure cholesterol did not rise. However, it's best not to eat eggs every day because it's best not to eat eggs every day because it's possible for an allergy to develop. This food is perhaps the one with the highest protein value and it's possible to have a dozen a day as long as the yolk is not heated. That may come as a surprise to many because of fears about salmonella, but the fact is thta this infection is rare in free range, organically-fed hens.

I recommend that you do not cook the yolk because it contains perishable nutrients that are destroyed by heat. Everything necessary to develop new life is perfectly combined in the egg. Warming up the yolk beyond 40 degrees has the same effect as it would if you applied exfessie heat to your body - it damages the delicate architecture of life, including healthy enzymes and biochemical substances. Imagine if you broke a jug with a hammer and then tried to stick all the same jug as before. Clearly, even if you had all the pieces, it would not be the same. It would not only look different but may no longer hold water nor be attractive. A cooked yolk may seem just as good as a raw one, but it's not that simple. One of the biggest risks from heating the yolk is that this changes and oxidises the cholesterol, above all if it is mixed with the egg white, such as in scrambled eggs. It may take a while to get used to eating raw yolks, but if you take it slowly you won't find it that bad. If you add a little oil it will take on a more mayonnaise like consistency and taste quite nice. Please note that it is important that you do not eat raw egg whites. This is because they contain a substance called avidin which bonds to biotin (B vit) and with time can cause a deficiency of this vitamin. You can cook the egg whites in a frying pan - simply add some water, cover them and warm them on low heat until firm. As far as tuna, I don't have good news. Like salmon and emperor fish, it is best not to eat it too often as fish have become contaminated with mercury and also PCB, dioxins and other chemical agents that harm the immune system. It's a big shame because without these toxins, these fish would have been very healthy food choices, particularly rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which bodybuilders need plenty of.

However, I recommend that you take fish oil supplements. They will provide you with the valuable omega 3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHA. In particular, I suggest you take cod liver oil in the winter, because it is rish in vitamin D and fish oil in the summer, to help the body synthesize Vit D itself. Shop around to get the purest highest quality fish oils.

I eat 16 egg whites,plus a 6 egg omelette ( 4 whites 2 whole)
and two tins of tuna 6 days a week and have done for 2 years now, so what are you saying, I'm gonna turn into mercury man????
I've done really well on the diet, lots of hard muscle, hardly any fat, (a bit cos I'm bulking at moment). So should I change my diet then , and if yes, then to what???

The Godfather will become famous soon enough
apparently by cooking the egg you improve the bioavailability of the protein contained, so it depends what you are eating the egg for.. quality protein? or quality micronutrients? personally i only eat the whites anyway so this article is of little value to me, but its interesting to note the difference between organic and regular egg yolks (in terms of the ratio between O6 and O3 EFA's), certainly if i ever do decide to add a yolk in my diet i'll make sure i use organic

Free range eggs have 19 times the Omega 3's than store bought eggs.

Think of it like this.
The diet of a chicken is eating bugs and all kinds of stuff. This diet is far superior than the ones locked up in coops.
Better diet better egg.
Same with cows, they used to be free range too (some places still are), they have better milk profiles too, better meat as well.
