Question Who thinks 30% fat in your diet is unhealthy?

Id really like to see the people post for or against this topic.
If you post either way give your reason why you hold your position.
This thread is designed to clear up some confusion about fats.

Ok I'll be the first Hackskii

When I diet I eat the following

350g protein a day
100g carbs a day

Thats 1800 cals a day

So I need 2500 cals a day or thereabouts

So that's a 700 cal deficit I have to find or another way is 78g fats a day which equates to 20% fats in the diet. After all the fat from my meat sources I would say it's closer to 25%.

But I never get health problems when I ketosis diet and I get ripped up easy so I think it's OK

If the 30% compromises of mostly monounsaturated fats, then its great.

I will comment but The thread is asking: Who thinks 30% fat in your diet is unhealthy?
I was going to raise the fat higher but no need.
Some feel that this is a high fat diet.

I am shaking the carpet to get the dirt out.
There is a method to my madness.
There are a few I am looking fwd to seeing post and you know who you are all three of you.

You have to give an explination tho.

You are on the right track but you have to have saturated fats in your diet. You also have to have cholesterol in your diet too to be healthy.
Not only that but monounsaturated fats might not give you something else that is essential either.
So you are right in the way you are thinking but you still need those other fats in there too and something else too.
I am not going to give everything away just of yet.

Olive oil, for instance, is 77% monounsaturated fat, 9% polyunsaturated fat, and 14% saturated fat.
Fatty Acids
Oleic- 76.7% (Omega-9)
Palmitic- 10.5% (Omega 6)
Linoleic- 6.6% (Omega 3)
Linolenic- 0.7% (omega 3)

Cholesterol is synthesised from saturated fats anyway right? So there wouldnt be any need for taking it in your diet?

Cholesterol is found in saturated fat but is not a saturated fat.

The liver will manufacture cholesterol as needed.
But because the liver makes it does not mean that we dont need to injest it.
In fact the liver has other things to do too.

Again low cholesterol diets are not healthy and you will end up with low testosterone levels too.

So yes you have to have this in your diet.

Another guy I know who's knowledgable on fats said that the body disposes of 1g of cholesterol a day with bile salts but this will be helped by B3, EFAs,Vit C and other factors

So taking in cholesterol from Eggs and meat won't harm you if you have a good diet.

I think I read that low vit C can help artery blockage as a natural defence against scurvy which causes thinning of the artery walls. Therefore that's another reason to have high Vit C in the diet.

i am currently experimenting with a 40/40/20 diet protein/fats/carbs as i am borderline type 2 diabetic and this isnt because i have eaten crap all my life either. my own doc has told me that due to the atkins diet, low carb diets are getting a bad name. he says this is unfair and given the choice he would choose a low carb high(good) fat diet

my very boring view, it will be healthy for one person and not so healthy for another, no scientific references behind my view other than people respond well to food types and ratios which another person wouldnt

i myself would have no problem knowing that 30% of my daily caloric consumption was from fats as long as there are decent ratios of saturated fat, unsaturated, poly, mono and omegas

The only way that it would be unhealthy is if you ate more than 40% of the total calories in carbohydretes.
Other than that 30% fat in a diet is very healthy.

Actually this has been studied in diffrent models of people, athletes from Stanford University swim team and a bunch of other people.

It is taken from The Zone by Dr. Barry Sears
More than 5 million zone books have been sold.
It is based on the 40/30/30 approach of Carbs/Proteins/fats

The number-one predictor of heart disease is not high cholesterol, or high blood pressure, but elevated levels of insulin.

It is excessive levels of the hormone insulin that makes you fat and keeps you fat. How do you increase insulin levels? By eating too many fat-free carbohydrates or too many calories at any one meal.

People tend to forget that the best way to fatten cattle is to raise their insulin levels by feeding them excessive amounts of low-fat grain. The best way to fatten humans is to raise their insulin levels by feeding them excessive amounts of low-fat grain, but now in the form of pasta and bagels.

But: About 25% of the U.S. population are genetically lucky because they have a low insulin response to carbohydrates.

I work on a 50/25/25 split with my diet and I find it works well for me. I would always drop carbs before fat though but always try to keep the balance very similar.
