SAINSBURYS TURKEY DRUMSTICK

Hi,

Would like your opinions on this apparent bargain I just picked up. It's a 700g Turkey Drumstick from Sainsburys Basic range. It normally costs £0.97, but was reduced to £0.67.

Nutritional values are as follows...

Per 100g: 235Kcal; Protein 30.1g; Carbs less than 0.1g; Fat 12.7g of which saturates 3.5 mono-unsaturates 5.2g polyunsaturates 3.1g; Salt 0.5g of which sodium 0.2g.

So get this, for less than a £1 I got over 200gs protein. This is way cheaper than the chicken breasts I've been buying. I can get over 600gs of protein daily, just from these f*ckers and for the cost of a pint!

OK, so I'm guessing that the fat content may be verging on the high, but I reckon I can spend just two minutes and cut loads of fat from it.

What are the opinions of the more nutritionally-clued among you? Will this be OK for a regular option on my current carb-cycling diet? Also, could I carry this over in a few weeks when I want to clean bulk? It's SO cheap I can be banging in the protein, not to mention my Whey shakes, Tuna, meat slices etc.

That 200g of protein includes the bone, marrow, skin, connective tissue, etc.
Still a bargain though - those legs look like they come off dinosaurs!

Is it a raw drumstick?

If so cut all the meat off, weigh it then grill it on a George Foreman grill. Most of the fat will go.

Or you could bake it in the oven wrapped in some tin foil with some cider vinegar added to it. This tends to pull out the fat from the meat and leave a dry tender joint. Add some tarragon for flavour.

If it's a precooked drumstick then there's a high probability that there will be some transfats in there.

Yeah, it's a raw drumstick.

I cooked it in the oven last night. Tried my best to strip as much fat and skin as I could before hand. It was alright, still got a bit left this morning, but was expecting a bit more meat from it. It's a decent cheap alternative, though, and I thought that Turkey was generally considered to be one of the leanest meats.

Thanks.
