Weight not shifting!

Ok guys im all out of ideas, and need some, well, ideas really!

There's a lady who come to my gym, late twenties, school teacher, often very stressed who is battling with her weight.

I've been seeing her for 6 weeks, after another one of our instructors failed to do anything positive for her.

I altered her diet so she is now consuming 5 small meals a day with the relevant macros for her bodyweight, tapering carbs off towards bedtime.

At first she made brilliant progress, dropping 4lbs in the first 3weeks, but the weight has slowly crept back on.

She is a vegetarian, verging on vegan, so as you can imagine, protein in her diet was practically non-existent. we have rectified this with such things as cottage cheese,tofu etc, and she now takes a protein shake too just to boost protein intake.

A gym-goer, 3 x week, works very hard and muscle tone is slowly starting to improve. drinks 2-3 ltrs a day, but like i said the weight she lost is creeping back on.

Im out of ideas now, she's a really sweet woman, and i am having trouble finding ways to keep her motivated.

Without coming across as too much of a big-head, ive had nothing but success with all of my clients, and i dont want to let this woman down.

Any ideas appreciated guys.

vegetarians are really hard to please one of my wife's friends came to see me 2 weeks after having her first child wanting to lose 2stone in 4 weeks as she was getting married and already bought the dress.
i gave her a diet with supplements to bridge the protein issue and a cardio/exercise plan and 3 weeks later she had dropped the weight.

So the issue her is either she is not doing what she says she is doing or your diet is not working.
i find low carb cycling being best than just dropping off the carbs before bedtime....

can i ask in your diet do you give her a high day or cheat meal once a week?? if not why not

Or, if shes training hard and consuming more protein perhaps the weight that is creeping back on is in the form of muscle. Does she look like she's gaining fat back, or is it just an increase in weight?

A large amount of people in my opinion aren't honest about their diets.

They always associate their 'best day' for that diet (bulk/cut etc) with how the diet has gone generally...

i.e. They say they are eating 8 meals at a 30g/30g/10g split as they did that one day last week, but for the rest of the time they've eating crisps, sausage rolls and fruit pastilles...

Pscarb, she does have a cheat meal or two once a week just to ramp up metabolism, i havent gone completely down the carb cycling route, (as you noted, simply tapering down before bed) but will start to implement this as of monday next week.

For this woman, (70.2kg's) what would your values of CHO be per/lb of bodyweight for the Low/Med/High days look like mate?

i had a client who had a similar problem and caught herself out sleep eating.. as in sleep walking but while sleep walking she would go to the freezer and get out a tub of ice cream. she woke up on the kitchen table with melted ice cream and a spoon in hand with no idea how she got there..

other option is thyroid.. if she has lost weight before than this probably isnt an issue but get it checked anyway.

is she taking any medication? some medication can promote weight gain.

changed her training up?

changed her diet up?

She could get a blood test done to look for signs of underactive thyroid gland. Iv had some worrying symptoms last 18 months forcing me to stop training or . I was doin everything to put on size then one week i noticed rapid weight loss! this continued and levveled of at 3stone :-(. 4 hospital trip later and i found i had a overactive thyroid. The latter 'Under active' is very common inn women and does ultinately lead to weight loss. Fu%%ing nightmare. Def checked by the doc it as part of a general check before starting serious program.
