eat less starchy carbs in general...

bread, pasta, potatoes etc... cut the amount you usually eat and keep up the green veg.

Also E A T M E A T!

or those poor animals die for nothing!

as megatron has said, I think the problem with most vegetarian diets is the amount of carbs people eat to make up for not eating meat.........where we would eat a good portion of meat and have some carbs and veg, veggies may just boost up the potatoes and starch.

I know it is a sweeping statement, but I have 3 friends who are vegetarians, 1 is obese, and the other 2 are overweight. I know far more people who are meat eaters and the proportion who are overweight is far less.

Sure, I initially said it was a sweeping statement, but it is just my personal observation of the 3 veggies I know and the many meat eaters I know. Could all be coincidence - and yes, anybody can achieve a great body by eating correctly.

Well, being a vegetarian, you should add some vitamins like B12 and some creatine, there are others but off the top of my head vegetarians are missing a few things that is needed.

That flabbyness might be a difficiency in protein and if this is the case you will have a compromised immune system.
I have to find the stuff for the vegetarian defficiencies.

But for the most part you are gonna have to change to lower GI carbs and add some protein, if you want to lose weight along with fish oils.

err...fish oils arent vegetarian...

there seems to be a bit of an anti vegetarian feeling in these replies

I am a lifelong vegetarian and it has never held me back.

Millie, get yourself eating some protein every 3 hours, eggs, cottage cheese, tofu, soya, drop the carbs down, whack in some good fats like flax and see the changes!

eg:
8 am: oats and protein shake
11 am: cottage cheese and veg, tsp flax oil
2pm : small sweet potato and egg omlette( 6 whites 1 yolk)
4pm: quorn slices or whatever, flax oil
5pm train
PWO: whey shake with carbs(maltodextrin or oats or banana)
7pm: egg white omelette and plenty veg, flax oil
10pm : protein shake

Depends, I do know some vegetarians that wont eat any animal products, this might be where the anti-vegetarian feelings come from.

Fish oils are a better source of EFA's than flax oil.
Flax is very high in ALA and too much ALA is suspect to cause cancer (prostate).

But for men, the Phytoestrogen in flax might be of some concern too.

Fish oils also contain DHA whereas flax does not.

no problem millie, that sample diet is pretty low carb, so you might want to have one day a week where you eat higher carbs or have a cheat meal just to rev up your metabolism a bit. Alternatively if you plateau, cut the amounts of oats and sweet potato.

If you get bored, substitute for foods from the same food group e.g small portion rice instead of sweet potato, maybe a low carb protein bar instead of a shake, eggs instead of cottage cheese, etc etc
