Diet for an older friend.

I know its a hard question but if anyone can help i would very much appreciate it!

Ive got a female friend who is 47 nad she is constantly dieting but to no success. She has explained what she eats to me and it sounds like she is eating too little to loose any weight?

Meal 1 ; Rivita

Meal 2 ; Toast

Meal 3 ; Main Meal (dinner)

Could anyone suggest a diet that will help her loose weight please. She is a very active woman although she doesn't go to the gym. Long walks and basic exercises such as sit-ups are about as far as it goes.

Cheers guys i know you can help!!

Could you help me devise a small diet plan anyone?

Would this kind of thing be ok?

E.G. for 1 day.

Meal 1:
Bowl of wholewheat cereal (shredded wheat maybe)

Meal 2:
Chicken salad
2 peices of fruit

Meal 3:
Chicken with Rice or pasta with sauce

Meal 4:
Two peices of whomeal toast
1 peice of fruit

Is this the sort of thing i should base it around?

That would be ok, you really need to get her eating, its then going to take a while for the body to start believing she is eating regularly

IMO

Add protein to meal 1.

Just have 1 piece of fruit in meal 2.

Be careful of the sauce in meal 3.

Add fats to each meal.

Add veggies in wherever possible.

Swap meal 4 for something like salmon salad (i.e. protein and fats with no starchy carbs).

Eggs would be fine for breakfast.

Or see if she will try a protein shake... that is a really good option first thing.

She is eating way too many carbs and not enough proteins and fats.

That Ryvita is good for fiber but she needs more protein and fats in her diet.
Two portions of bread only?
She will never get a handle on things without keeping insulin in check.

Sorry, here is another post to another person.
The diet wont fit hers but here goes to give you an idea on insulin, blood sugars and hormones.

Ok, lets work on your diet some.
How I like to eat is 40/30/30 and this is carbs/proteins/fats

For weight loss if you can’t control insulin you will never win the fight in fat loss.
Fat is the number one suppresser of insulin.
I want to make a note here about progesterone.
Progesterone is the number one hormone for suppressing insulin.
Many health food stores carry this and it is made from wild yam or soy or both. Apply to your inner arm and or wrist twice a day.
I am on progesterone right now and dieting is way easier using this.

Now back to diet.
Your first meal of: Breakfast: bowl of oatmeal with a bananna, walnuts, raisins tossed in and a sweet potatoe on the side.
Is too high in carbs and not high enough of protein and fats.
Id eat the oatmeal, walnuts and add some whey protein to that.
One scoop per half cup uncooked oatmeal.
Add a couple of fish oils to this too and you will be good to go.

Your other meals with protein only are ok but you can add something like this instead, this will give you very level blood sugars and help you so you will have a steady stream of blood sugar and not highs and lows.

Apple, can of tuna and some nuts.
This will give you some protein, good carbs (low GI) and good fats. Not to mention does fat suppress insulin but so does fiber and the fiber in the apple is soluble and non soluble fiber.
One is good for cardiovascular health and the other is good for elimination of waste from the body and both help to lower blood sugars, which in turn will lower insulin.
Insulin is a storage and transport hormone and high levels of insulin will make you fat.

If you can help it stay away from breads, sugars, pasta’s, and the like when dieting.
Choose low glycemic index carbs like apples, artichokes, avocado, beets, berries, broccoli, cabbage, garlic, brown rice (bran layer has not been stripped), greens, kiwi fruit, oatmeal, onions, oranges, tomato, sweet potato, wheat bran.

Fat, fiber, then protein all change the glycemic index of carbohydrates. Adding them will help lower the GI of that carb and therefore lower the response of insulin.
Cooking carbohydrates also raise the GI of the carbohydrates too so if you can eat them raw if you can help it.
The other exception here would be to cook tomatoes as this will bring out the lycopene, this antioxidant is probably one of the best for fighting cancer of the prostate of any other substance.

So, keep the carbs to a minimum for fat loss.
Eat carbs proteins and fats all in the same meal.
Eat fish oils too to support cardiovascular health, good prostaglandin support, reduction in inflammation, etc.
Add a fiber to your diet like apple pectin, or other fibers naturally occurring in food like vegetables.
All this will aid in your fight against fat, support good health due to vitamin and minerals content of these better selection foods.

A couple of times a week I would add yoghurt to your diet in the form of plain yoghurt and just add some protein to it then take some fish oils to it.
Yoghurt has friendly bacteria in it and this supports digestion and supports a healthy immune system too, not only that you will be better equipped to fight excess yeast in the body which can cause fatigue.

If you have any more questions on this then feel free to post here.

i just wanted you to get an idea on how food reacts to everybody.
Remember food is the most powerfull thing you can put in your body.

She needs 5-6 meals a day adding protein/fat/carb, to each meal.

As a matter of fact yes.

Insulin is a hormone which food kindof regulates and too much of that for too long will do all kindof things that are not good for the body like, eyes going bad, kidney damage, circulation problems, amputations, etc.

Overfeeding can lower GH levels too, increase cholesterol, raise blood pressure, etc.

All conditions of food and all can be aided or helped with food or lack there of.
