Not so much cross breeding mate, more a seperate breed of mastiff.
When a breed is pure bred to then produce another breed with different qualities, I see nothing wrong.
Such as breeds, presa, argos, even the pit bull is a cross originally.
But to cross a breed just for fun, or for cost, or just idleness I don't agree with.
Basically, if it's done by professional breeders for show or for a decent reason then yes, by some bloke down the pub to earn a few quid from pups then no.
Like i said, I've been asked on a few occasions to cross my Akita, with a rottie, mastiff and a cane corso, but I refused as I just cannot see the point in the pups, apart from to sound like a "hard" cross, or to make a few quid, but the only bitch I'd let him breed with would be a show quality Akita, as that's what he is.
For the record, I do like presa's. Seriously thinking of one once the kiddies are a bit older, as I don't want a boisterous pup around the toddlers, but once they are old enough then yes.
I tried to import a Dogos Argos (There is a seperate thread on the issue somewhere) but I was not allowed as they are banned. Even though there has never been one on these shores.....wtf???

| Re: staffordshire bull terrier Breeding for the sake of it and money is a pet peeve of mine, People around here have absoloutely ruined the staffy's because they've bred the fvck outta em and just for money etc.
Id rather ppl did it for the love of the breed and spend time and care with them, too many ppl don't even know how to train or treat a dog properly these days.
Some tw@t approached the gf to breed his "thing" (said it was a mastiff but looked nothing like) with out dog but I said no, all this "ill give you so much etc" doesn't wash with me.
The breeder we got ours from in Derby has had countless Mastiffs to be re-housed because ppl buy them and then decide "its not for them" or treat them like sh1te. Sickens me.

| Re: staffordshire bull terrier I've said it before on this board, I think every single dog owber, should have to have a licence. This should ionvolve vetting the premises to make sure the premises are big enough, and should also involve a fee, and an age limit to stop 15-16 yr old hoodies from owning dogs without being responsible.

Ours would never bite or go for anyone, but it once pulled me clean over even with his choker on when some kids were caught nicking a car across the road, just shows how he could be and tbh it made me proud he sensed what was happening, hes a gentle giant but once made me fukin yelp like a b1tch when he accidentally caught my finger between his teeth when i was playing with him, I actually nearly fukin cried......pmsl

| Re: staffordshire bull terrier Akita's are extremely territorial and will simply go for any dog that gets within range. They are also very choosy with people and mine will not tolerate strangers in the house period. However he is fantastic with the kids and really is an exceptional dog. But I know he cannot be trusted near another dog as he will simply go for it.
My Rottie was different, he would not mind other dogs until it got too boisterous then he'd flip, and again he didn't like anyone coming in the house.
I totally believe in keeping dogs in the house as a member of family and cannot understand why some people buy dogs to keep them either chained up or in a run in the back garden. Just pointless imo

Just pointless imo | True mate, I know that akita's can be very temperamental, but its around the kids that obviosuly you've got to have sorted, I think obviously some get jealous whern a new arrival comes onto the scene their place in the pack feels threatened, you sound very clued up though Rob on stuff like that.
I agree too, ppl just get dogs around here to use as trophy's, my mates dog has a fukin matt to lay on in the kitchen, no basket, a fvckin matt! and even the matt aint his according to my mate, it goes ballistic when someone shows it some effection, oh yeah, and it licks its lips around kids, hows that for a well trained dog? My mates a tit, all he ever brings up is the time mine and his fvckin thing went for each other....like some proud moment....pathetic...suffice to say, we don't take ours round there now.

| Re: staffordshire bull terrier It's idiots like that, that have caused perfectly good breeds to be banned. Any dog is as good as it's owner, simple.
Even if a Dog is boisterous by nature, then you simply do not give them the oppurtunity to be boisterous, keeping it muzzled or on a lead for instance.
Like I said, if owners premises were vetted, a fee paid yearly, the dog chipped, and owners could prove they could afford the dog and have the time to exercise the dog that would stop most of the problem dog owners, such as the hoodie chavs.
The way I see it, if someone's on benefits, they can't afford a dog, simple.
