costochondritis/ tietzes syndrome

I am having very sharp pain inside my chest on the right side, three ribs down. Doctor said i have costochondritis which is joint pain between sternum and rib cage. It gets worse after i work my chest. I have been on anti inflamatories for 1 month and as i came off the pain came straight back.

Anyone heard of this and any idea what i can do to work roung it?

Thanks guys.

Re: costochondritis/ tietzes syndrome

Tietze's syndrome usually resolves itself after a few weeks providing the cause of the condition is removed to allow the inflammation to subside. NSAID's (ibuprofen etc) are usually the way to go providing you can tolerate them.

Can you recall benching & inadvertently bouncing the bar off your chest, or have you suffered any other impact to the chest that could have exacerbated the condition? I know of one guy who was doing a heavy set of dumb bell presses without a spot & his left tricep blew completely and the dumb bell crashed onto his chest. He suffered the obvious bruising you would expect but the pain in his sternum took longer to subside than the tricep injury. I did not actually examine him but it was highly likely he had injured the same structure as you have.

Re: costochondritis/ tietzes syndrome

Hi mate,

I have got this at the moment and its a right pain!!! Have been on Ibuprofen for two weeks and I must say the pain has near enough gone but every now and then I get a slight twinge that tells me to keep talking them and lay off chest work for few more weeks.

My Doc said to expect to be off chest work for 4 to 6 weeks then ease back in after that??
