post ortho appointment update !!

I had my ortho appointment yesterday (Thurs) with Mr Ions. He has said that there is no chance of a hip replacement as i have no "ball and socket". The ball at the top of my femur does not exist. my femur has been for 30 years resting directly onto my pelvis and he was very surprised when i told him that i only stopped wearing my artificial leg 3 weeks ago.
Anyway, treatment-wise.... He is going to inject local aneasthetic direct into the hip bone (whilst i'm knocked out) and if that eases the pain, we will know for sure that it is the hip that is the problem. If not, it could be the femural nerve. This injection, he wants to have done and me to be able to say "yes its worked or no it hasnt" before the 12 March as there is a hip surgeons meeting on the 12 March that he is going to attend, outline my situation and seek advice from there.
If it is my hip, the probable treatment thereafter will be a fusion of my femur/pelvis. This will obviously cease any movement i have in my hip presently, but will almost certainly be pain free---the major downside to that is the very distinct possibility that i will not be able to wear my artificial leg, therfore not be able to walk again. It is the latter that concerns me most.
The pains are just as bad, if not slightly worse than they were last week. My GP did give me Oramorph, which, apart from giving me a slight upset stomach did absolutely nothing for the pain, nothing at all. I expected to be flat on my back for hours with it but think i must be immune, as it had zero effect. I'm still only getting bout 2hrs sleep a night, grabbing naps when i can during the day.
