Re: Back Issue

I'd been having problems with my lower back for about a year or so, went to see a doctor and was told that I was tall and slim, so do a course in Pilates. I went to see a chiropractor and initially things went well, but I think it got to a stage where his twisting and cracking just didn't seem to have any effect any more.

I went back to my doctor and got a referral to a back specialist who sent me for an MRI, which showed that I had two discs which had completely worn away and a third that had herniated. He sent me for an epidural, but that only lasted a few weeks.

Finally I got to see a consultant at the hospital and he agreed to operate on the herniated disc, so I went under the knife at the end of January of last year. It's been a slow recovery but things with my spine do finally seem to be getting better (although I still can't bend the bottom three vertebrae). But I also keep getting really bad pain in my glutes; the doctor seems to think that I could be suffering from sacralitis - inflammation of the sacral joint, but to put it blunty, it really is a pain in the ****.

Oh, and I'm also waiting for a referral to see a rheumatologist about my hips.

For anyone out there who's tried everything and still nothing works, try giving Reikki a go. My wife is a Reikki healer (very handy) and whilst she wasn't able to take the pain away completely, she was able to provide some relief for a while.

Re: Back Issue

hay BodyUK

Mate I really feel for you dude as I was in the slim tall boat too and fanked my back too, the sciatica that you are getting is the worst, it gets so god dam annoying! Cant cough of sneeze with out pain in legs :(

I have felt some relief since seeing a chiro but the release of pain only lasted a few days and now I need to see her again I just hope that each time the relief lasts a big longer cause I really dont wanna go under the knife especially since I am on a 2 year working holiday its the last thing I wanna do while over here and I dont really trust the NHS to much.

i have only been going through it for 6 months and already it does my head in so I reckon you must be going out of your mind.

did they fuse the three lower verts in your back when they did the surgery or just trim down the herniated disc in your back?

Good luck dude!!!!

Re: Back Issue

They are good suggestions Hacks, esp the one on the top right. I usually pull the leg up a little further and pull arcoss my body. I do this 4 times per day. Hold for 30 secs on each rep, for 3 reps on each leg. This helps release any tension or compression in the glute which is one possible cause of sciatica.
