| Lower Back Problem Injured my lower back while Deadlifting a couple of weeks ago. Felt a sharp pain in the right hand side, just about my ar$e cheek. So I stopped and went home.
Didn't feel anything for a couple of days, so went back and trained. The pain has now come back and is a pretty annoying dull ache with a sharp pain if i bend over/sneeze/put socks on etc... There doesn't seem to be any shooting pains down my leg, so hoping it isnt a nerve. There also appears to be a slightly swollen lump just above my right glute that is also on the left side, but is smaller.
Sitting down is painful after a while and is relieved when laying down - for a while, but then the ache seems to come back. Which is now affecting my sleep.
Gonna give it a couple more days before seeing a doc or whatever, but in the mean time has anyone got an idea of what it may be and any stretching or pain relief that I can take/do? At the end of the day I know rest is the only option which I am doing, but any advice would be good.
Cheers.

| I had a major lower back muscle pull where I had to crawl on my knees to move.
I went to see the doc.. He said it was muscular.
This is what I did. Healed in two days.
3000mg Calcium 3X a day
1500mg Magnesium 3X a day with the Calcium
1200 IU vitamin E 3X a day
3 whole eggs or 2 whole eggs with 1 glass whole milk 3X a day.
Now I weighed 140lbs so you may have to add more for your weight.
Taking the eggs and milk was before I knew about complete protein isolate.
How is your back?
Did you see the doc?

| That sounds like your back is out.
Sometimes when your back is out and you dead lift you could have problems.
Go to a chiropractor and see if he or she can adjust your back for relief.
Mine went out and I could not even stand. I was in agony.
Went to the chiro, cracked my back and all better.
But it did go back out at night and had to go back later that day.
For maintenance issues it is not a bad idea to go to the chiropractor once a week or month.

| Thanks for the advice guys.
I went to a drop in clinic as I couldn't get to see the doc. Still waiting for an appointment - NHS rules - yeah right...
Anyway, I'm on some codeine phosphate combined with ibuprofen. It does seem to be getting a little better, also tried something out of sheer deperation. This is a patch that sits over the lower back which passes a negative charge into the back to nautralize the area - probably a load of b0ll0cks, but the placebo effect seems to be kicking in
Peg, I always take Calcium, Zinc and Magnesium - I've upped my intake though.
Going to book a chiropractor session today - hope it isn't too expensive.
Edit: Got an appointment for tomorrow- £45 for an hour. Can't grumble too much.
Going to go to the gym tonight to do a very light cardio session. Probably x-trainer for an hour. I always think its better to stay active than to stop.
Anyone got opinions on back supports? They are light a very light version of a lifting belt. Would it be suitable to wear when doing light exercise while im recovering?

| Update:
After seeing an very nice guy and hopefully a good Chiropractor:
It turns out I have a pelvic injury not purely a lower back injury. Chiropractor reckons on a 3 week recovery plan which I'm happy to go with.
All popping and cracking went well so should be back throwing weights around by October
He also suggested I avoid Iburprofen and any pain killers. Basically anti-inflamatories prevent vitamins and nutriants from engluffing the injured area, therefore increasing recovery time.

| Cheers, I was pretty relieved.
One quick question Hacks - I know you are pretty hot on the topic of diets - What would you suggest I do over the next month to avoid putting on too my sloppy weight. Cut back on carbs mainly?

| Yah, you can back off of them or just select ones that are very low in the GI that have some fiber in them like vegetables and some fruits.
Berries, apples, asperagrus, broccoli, turnips, hell even lettice
Just try and stay away from breads, pasta, all refined carbohydrates, sugar, hydrogenated oils and trans fats.
If you can do that you will have it 90% licked.
Keep the protein up there some too.
Take some good fats like fish oils.
Once in a while a good intestinal cleansing is recommended.
If you need some ideas on that give me a hollar.

| back pain alright mate
well its sounds to me you have notted up your lower back as the lump suggests a twisted muscle.. a good sports massage will cure this problem...it could be a slight trapped nerve as this causes the dull, sharp, burning sensation.. suggest having a sports massage to clear the not in your lower back...
i would also suggest seeing a chiropractor to straighten out your lower pelvis and spine
as these problems are mainly caused by years of training twisting your spine and your pelvis becomes uneven... a chiropractor will be able to determine this and crack your spine and pelvis back into place.
i say this as i had the problems you are describing for 2 years and ignored them and carried on training heavy using ice and ibruprofen for the pain... i ended up this year cracking 2 discs in my spine which was not nice and i had 6 months off,, just started training light again... try seeing chiropractor before your back gets worse.
hope this helps mate

i think i have pulled muscle/ligaments in my lower back. will all this help? milk can be used for its calcium instead of tablets right? |
