Torn bicep

Good morning everyone,

Last night at the gym my training partner tore his bicep!

After spending many hours at A&E he was told he needs to rest it for 6 weeks.

So i was wondering if any of you lot can offer any advise to help along the recovery?

Many thanks

Paulieb

Re: Torn bicep

was it the bicep tendon that seperated? if so are they going to reatach it or will he just be left with 20% of his former power in that arm?

alot of the time the docs will do nothing because it costs money to reatach a bicep. Your have to make some case that hes a athelete to stand a chance or go private but the longer you leave it the harder it is to reatach.

Re: Torn bicep

had this happen to me,

tore from the inside where it inserts into the elbow joint,

can be operated on but has to be done very quick with a few days of actually doing it ideally which you will never get on the NHS. If left for weeks it will be very difficult to reattach with going wrong or causing problems.

unfortunatly rest, ice, elevation etc is all he will be able to do for now, later he can get ultra sound and massage to strip out scar tissue.

if its is a proper tear though it will take time to repair and get back to full strength. I did mine 14 months ago now and is still not 100% or back to full strength.
