aggravated

hey fellas.. had a big weekend on the gold coast with the fellas and we ended up playin beach cricket and went surfing.. i think the combination of the 2 aggravated the tendinitis i occasionally get in my elbow. i rarely get it but it's there, im just unsure if this is going to be a continual problem or if it is eventually going to sort itself out.

so i did a back session on monday and it didnt seem too bad. i was in slight pain but the real pain i got was when i was working spotting clients / members that fail on their last rep and shifting weight plates.

this morning i opened and trained my clients etc and had no pain, however the first set on flat bench with no weight but the bar i felt slight discomfort. i ignored it and proceeded to do my warm up set of 60kgs and left the gym in frustration as soon as i had finished that set.

i know resting it is the best thing for it however this isn't an option due to my job being a PT having to move weight around all the time. not to mention my stubborn personality when it comes to training.. i tried to think of ways to train my chest without using my elbow but i could only come up with DB flys and pec deck. the real question in this post would be do you boys have any other ideas of training chest that might not aggravate my elbow?

Re: aggravated

Marc,if you can perform the above exercises without discomfort, just stick to those for maintenance.

This is not the answer you want to hear but i would not be attempting any pressing movement until the inflammation settles down and i would be asking the clients to shift their own weights around while finding another gym member to assist the reps.Alternatively come up with a new training regime whereby they are not training to failure.

At the moment it just sounds aggravated and a couple of weeks of rest coupled with ice/heat and anti inflammatories should sort it.Dont let this turn into a chronic injury.

Re: aggravated

Are you sure it's tendonitis, or lateral epicondylits (tennis elbow)? It's usually caused, or aggravated by a rapid decelleration of the forearm, but can be brought on by other things. Cricket is a prime candidate with throwing & batting both being potential triggers.

yeh mate im a brissy boy. i prefer the city myself but the goldie is a good place to go for a holiday ;) i head down there most weekends to hit the surf at snappa or dbah and occasionally a night out on the town but i prefer the city to live.

i find that the goldie fellas are a lot more agro then the brissy dudes. brissy is a lot more laid back when your in a club / pub.

yeah mate im pretty sure its tennis elbow / tendinitis from the various sports ive played. my elbow has been fine for a long time but cricket seemed to flare it up on saturday and now im struggling. i dont notice the pain unless i do weights or move weight plates round the gym as mentioned in my post.. its fine during the day so i assume thats what it is.
